Tennessee’s Health Department says it will have to stop funding safety-net clinics to deal with the state’s constricting budget.
Health Commissioner Susan Cooper says such clinics provide uncompensated care to those who can’t afford it and lack insurance.
During state budget hearings Monday, Governor Phil Bredesen asked if other cuts were possible instead.
Cut it for those who aren’t citizens.
Are you telling me that the State of Tennessee is going to violate the fundamental right to healthcare???? Bring charges in the Hague!!

I support a national public services identity card. Applicants for public services of any type would be required by law to present the card as proof of citizenship prior to services being rendered.

I am not heartless but has anyone thought to ask how "Health care" was handled before insurance became widespread? The indigent were not left to die in the streets. Society had ways of dealing with them without crushing tax burdens and intrusive government oversight of every aspect of every American's life.

Yeah. I have. Doctors used to do more pro bono.
Plus, costs were a lot cheaper back then so it didn’t break the bank to get something done.(thus it was easier to simply do out of pocket healthcare)

Well, yes, having worked for the govt years ago I can say unequivocally that hundreds of millions can be saved by eliminating supervisory bonuses, eliminating fleet vehicles (= personal cars for the special people) and laying off all the relatives that fill space but do nothing (around 50% of any govt office).
Problem solved.
Good work Phil. We know this isn't political and spending absolutely can't be cut anywhere else. It's for the families.
I read in the paper this week that we (TN) now have a waiting list for uninsured AIDS patients. Apparently, the medications they require are too expensive for us and the feds have sent a limited amount of funding for their care. Who would have seen that coming?
