KY-Sen. 2010: In Kentucky, a Senate Candidate With a Pedigree for Agitation (Rand Paul)

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Representative Ron Paul proved to be a surprising presence in the presidential race in 2008. Now his son, Dr. Rand Paul, has become an unexpected contender in the 2010 Senate race in Kentucky.

Dr. Paul — an ophthalmologist and a son of the congressman, a Texas Republican and former presidential candidate — has become a serious challenger in the race to succeed Senator Jim Bunning.

Capitalizing on a hearty distrust of government and an anti-Republican-establishment fervor among conservatives, he has used the Internet to raise more than $1.3 million since he began his campaign in August.

“This primary is really about the future of our party,” said Dr. Paul, 46, who has lived in Kentucky since 1993 and has never run for public office before.

He is polling very well in KY, too. All those I know there are voting for him.

“Grayson will win because Paul’s views are extreme and he will turn off social conservatives,” said Mike Bryant, the Breathitt County Republican Party chairman, who maintains a blog called TooKookyforKentucky, which highlights some of the more controversial positions espoused by Dr. Paul and his father.

You know that you're on the right track when the RINOs are calling you "extreme" and a "kook."

As for Trey Grayson, he is a Van Jones/George Soros plant, so any GOP-er pushing him is either deluded, an idiot, a RINO, or all of the above.

Rand Paul '10 (or Bill Johnson of the AIP if Grayson wins the GOP primary)

The cynical NYTimes is hoping that Dr.Paul loses in the GOP primary. And they’re also hoping that Paul plays the spoiler by bolting the GOP and running as a 3rd party candidate, splitting the center/right vote, and thus vaulting the d-RAT into the US Senate. This would be a stinging rebuke to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, thus making the communists at the NY Times very happy indeed.

I will call McConnell tomorrow and ask him to pull the other Rep. candidate out of the race.

We learned from NY District 23. We must implement the lesson immediately.

Anyone who hesitates is a jerk!!

You know that you're on the right track when the RINOs are calling you "extreme" and a "kook."

I suppose it is entirely possible Mike Bryant is a RINO, but your definition seems to be anyone who doesn't support the likes of Rand Paul, which is certainly a bogus standard. The possiblity of this Senate seat opening was the first time Rand Paul decided to have any loyalty to the GOP and if his daddy wasn't a Congressman no one would care he's in the race or even know about it - certainly not a self-made candidate.

As for Trey Grayson, he is a Van Jones/George Soros plant, so any GOP-er pushing him is either deluded, an idiot, a RINO, or all of the above.

No, they are conservatives and have common sense, who don't support people who, among many other things, would appear repeatedly on the Alex Jones show, a top leader in the 9/11 truth conspiracy movement (but it gets him cash from the kooks for his money bombs so I guess that's the main thing). And they are people familiar with Trey Grayson and his work ethic, competence, and integrity that don't much appreciate the outrageous smear tactics and lies being spread about him.

Rand Paul is running on scripted campaign that would defame whoever the "other candidate" was on the same script ("moderate" "establishment", etc.) to and giving the real establishment its opportunity to swing in and take the race. They are standing by in wait to see if Paul can successfully damage Grayson enough - and if so, they will move in with another candidate and take the race. Their previous candidate apparently did not poll well and ended up having his home turf threated at the same time so he bowed out...but if you think they've completely given up and don't have someone waiting in the wings and using Paul as a foil to do so you are beyond naive.

Rand Paul / Ron Paul supporters continue to demonstrate why their presence is so toxic in the political process - the other candidate, no matter who it is, is to be regarded as the equivalent of a foreign enemy that must not only be defeated at the ballot box, but professionally and personally destroyed with baseless lies and smears like what they are trying to do with Trey Grayson. First it was that he was a Clinton delegate being spread everywhere (a total lie), then a website appears trying to connect him to the Keating 5 scandal (he was a teenager in high school when that scandal broke - impossible for him to have been involved), now he's a front being pushed by George Soros, laughable but for the fact it is beyond disgusting. What's next for you Rand Paul people? Trey Grayson is a child molester?

Amazingly, Rand Paul and his supporters claim he's the principled candidate, yet he's the one who flip flops on the issues like John Kerry. His multiple positions on Gitmo and how to try the 9/11 terrorists is a clear example, causing him to be denounced by some groups who previously gave him backing. He has no apparent core beliefs with this backpeddling, yet runs a campaign stating that he does and smears his opponent, who does have core conservative beliefs, as being the person with no principles. It's a clever script as people are certainly fed up with the establishment and politics as usual and who knows, may just work in this primary if they successfully define Trey Grayson in the way they are trying to - and Paul is getting all kinds of press attention from the media elite in New York and Washington to help him along the way...but it sure isn't honorable.

Rand Paul has previously endorsed the Obama Administration policy of bringing the most dangerous terrorists on Earth to U.S. soil, including alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and several co-conspirators.

Paul and Obama want to close the $200 million detention facility at Guantanamo Bay and prosecute these terrorists in civilian courts.

“While he had difficulty providing a straight answer today, Paul’s previous remarks supporting the Obama policy of closing Guantanamo and bringing the world’s most dangerous terrorists to the U.S. have been as consistent as they are misguided....

Rand Paul on terrorist detainees:

” ... it’s kind of unclear whether these people are guilty, not guilty ... So I really think deportation or sending them back to their country of origin might be the best way to go. And none of it’s fair, because some of them have been held years and years ...” - Alex Jones Show, 5/21/09.
(Rand like Ron hang around 9/11 Truther, anti war nutcase, Alex JOnes)

Rand Paul “couldn’t agree more” with those who believe Guantanamo has “significantly damaged the reputation of the United States” and who want to “see it shut down.” - Rand Paul website post, 5/25/09.

“I think they should mostly be sent back to their country of origin or to tell you the truth I’d drop them back off into battle ... you’re unclear, drop ‘em off back into Afghanistan. It’d take them a while to get back over here.” - YouTube video of Rand Paul speaking in Paducah, KY, 5/8/09.

Trey Grayson’s petition opposing that policy has garnered 2,000 signatures after just one day.

“Our nation is at war,” Grayson said. “We should never release our enemies back onto the battlefield to kill more Americans. We should try them in military tribunals outside the United States, and Guantanamo is the perfect place for that.

We’ve spent $200 million building a facility to safely house these terrorists outside our borders and try them using military commissions that will protect their rights while keeping Americans safe.”

Did Grayson vote for Clinton in the 90’s? Yea or Na? He can end this lie easily.

When I see or read anything from Grayson the my RINO alert kicks in.

I am no Paul supporter by any means, I think his father is a foreign policy nut case, but at this point voting the thought of voting for Grayson makes me think I would be voting for the KY version of Charlie Crist.

I am going to miss Jim Bunning...

Is getting money from Washington D.C. and New York City any better?
