Hi, Kristinn ... I’m thinking this song from “Duck Soup” might be the Obama Administration in a nutshell:
MRS TEASDALE
For our information
Just for illustration
Tell us how you intend
To run the nation.
FIREFLY
These are the laws of my administration:
No one’s allowed to smoke
Or tell a dirty joke
And whistling is forbidden
GUESTS
We’re not allowed to tell a dirty joke
Hail, hail Freedonia
FIREFLY
If chewing gum is chewed
The chewer is pursued
And in the hoose-gow hidden.
GUESTS
If we choose to chew, we’ll be pursued.
FIREFLY
If any form of pleasure is exhibited
Report to me and it will be prohibited.
I’ll put my foot down
So shall it be
This is the land of the free.
The last man nearly ruined this place,
He didn’t know what to do with it.
If you think this country’s bad off now,
Just wait till I get through with it.
The country’s taxed must be fixed,
And I know what to do with it,
If you think you’re paying too much now,
Just wait till I get through with it.
I will not stand for anything
That’s crooked or unfair.
I’m strictly on the up and up,
So everyone beware.
If anyone’s caught taking graft
And I don’t get my share,
We stand ‘em up against the wall...
And pop goes the weasel!
GUESTS
So everyone beware,
Who’s crooked or unfair,
No one must take a bit of graft
Unless he gets his share.
FIREFLY
If any man should come between
A husband and his bride,
We find out which one she prefers
By letting her decide.
If she prefers the other man,
The husband steps aside.
We stand him up against the wall,
And pop goes the weasel!
GUESTS
The husband steps aside,
Relinquishes his bride,
They stand him up against the wall
And take him for a ride.

Yeah, I also heard Kerry has flip-flopped on this, as well.

Me too. I will follow it on this thread. It seems to me that there were three logical courses of action. 1) Give your field commander what he asked for immediately. 2) Replace the field commander if you do not have confidence in his abilities. 3) Pull out of Afghanistan altogether if you don't believe in the mission. How do you arrive at a watered down response, three months later? And why do you make such a production out of of the announcement that you are providing a watered down response? If I were president, and I had confidence in McChrystal, I would grant the request immediately and announce it in a routine press conference. If I took three months, and I was only sending three-quarters of what had been requested, I wouldn't make such a show of it. Its unseemly.

All I’ve got to say is thank goodness that “V” is not on tonight (the series returns in March), or I’d be screaming and throwing things around my house by now.

Live thread ping! (Thanks once again, kristinn)
Quite frankly, I'd MUCH rather be watching "A Charlie Brown Christmas", which was originally scheduled to run tonight at 8pm on ABC...

I haven't watched a presidential address or a state of the union address since Reagan. Before him the last previous was JFK.
Watching these a$$holes just encourages them.

*LOL* I have to share this:
I'm sitting here at home with our 10yr old and 12 yr old sons while my husband is at work. I explain to them: 'Kids, A Charlie Brown Christmas was supposed to be on tonight at 8 but it's not showing, the President is going to give a speech. Do you want to watch A Charlie Brown Christmas on DVD tonight or wait till it re-airs next week?' My 10 yr old son chimes, 'DVD' and when I ask him 'You don't want to watch the speech?' he answers without missing a beat, 'I don't want to be bored to death'
