Why Don’t We Just Leave Afghanistan?
MSMB ^ | December 3, 2009 | Rob W. Case

Posted on 12/02/2009 11:21:28 PM PST by Making_Sense [Rob W. Case]

Before I begin, I just want to clarify something important. I do not believe that America should appease the international community or should appease the Muslim political community. America should look after its own interests and focus primarily on them and them alone. But I will say let’s just get out of Afghanistan all together because there is no real purpose left for our troops being there.

Taleban, AQ, Pakistan (nuclear weapons), and Iran for starters.

I agree, we have other countries to invade, leave in shambles and leave whenever we damn well feel like it.

I mean look how smart it was to abandon them last time after their war with Russia.

Smaaaarrrttttt.....

You're wrong, man. Time to clean out the nest completely.

We don't do that, these bastards will be back....

We have given our word that we will stand by these people if they help us. Turning coward and running out on them now would be the greatest propaganda point we could ever give the radical islamics.
We ran out on the people of South Viet Nam. A half million of them were killed and a couple million more were rounded up, interned in reeducation camps and tortured for years. Our countries reputation never recovered completely. When we tell another nation we will do something then we need to stay there and get the job done. We need to keep our word. If we turn tail and run the muslim world will view this as cowardice and weakness. We will be a much bigger target for terrorism. War is hell but if you start it finish it with victory. Nothing else can or should be acceptable.

I agree that the people in charge don’t know why we’re in Afghnanistan, and Obama hasn’t a clue as to what he’s going to do there other than mark time and get more of our troops killed with his idiotic rules of engagement.

Given his lack of resolve and his cluelessness about why we should be there, maybe it would be better if we simply bring the troops home and let things fall where they fall which is another attack on us.

It should be made crystal clear to everyone in the world that we’re there for our interests first and foremost. And our interest is to make sure the Taliban and Al qaeda do not make a comeback and use the country as their launchpad for a war of terror against us. If that is important to us, then we need to pay whatever the price maybe - including taking over the country ala Japan and Germany after WWII.

I think you should read the whole article ( maybe you did, and maybe others should), because that is what the author goes on to say.

Untie their hands. Don’t send 30,000 more over there with empty guns and white flags.

Let them do their job, then move on.

You have weeds in your field you don’t just dig up the roots on some of them and call the job done. You have to finish the job. Dig up the roots of every single weed in your field, or they will spread like crazy and you’re gonna have three times work to get rid of the weeds next year.

In other words, stay and finish the job or have to do again from scratch, and it will be a lot harder then. IMHO

Our troops are there to keep Al Quiada busy enough to prevent them from commiting another 9/11.
THAT'S WHY WE FIGHT! (semper fi!)

The problem that I see is that we have forgotten what war is.
We now fight wars as a police action and not for defeat of the enemy.
The only successful war that I have seen in the last 50 years was Gulf War 1, AT THE START.
Why in the hell did we stop short of Baghdad?
Well everyone knows the results.
Viet Nam was much the same. Nothing but many dead Americans and no results.

I do not see how we will ever be successful in Afghanistan if we treat it as a police action.
Even with heavy bombing, the Russians could not make a dent.
Now, Obozo has signaled our plan. We will camp out there
for a few years, loose a lot of young Americans, then bale out and come home.
What IS the purpose?
Do we think the Muzzies will just roll over and become nice guys?

Some of the powerful in the US own companies only in the US. Some own corporations around the world. They have a lot of money, a lot of pull. When it damaged their business, they used their pull to get it stopped. Selling arms is good business, wars are good business, but if you allow one side to destroy the other, you lose a customer.

What IS the purpose?

That is supposed to be decided by the White House Administration and the Military. Apparently obammmaaa only summons the Military when he wants to tell them what they can't do. Since he doesn't seem to take time to listen to them, it seems to me obama doesn't know or care about the purpose.

Do we think the Muzzies will just roll over and become nice guys?

Anyone with common sense or who watched the Ft. Hood disaster knows better. Look how well Major Hasan was treated by Americans, and look what he did.

Yes, we are in one hell of a mess.
We have a Marxist president, sympathy for Muzies,
and a population, of which half are brain dead.
Which one will get us first?

As long as pakistan remains a sanctuary for the taliban, you cannot win in Afghanistan.

Well, if we did not have so many zombies, we would not have so many of the others.

"They attack our troops and our troops have to (as if they didn’t have enough to worry about) read Miranda rights to terrorists,,,"

Note - "U.S. commanders told FOX News soldiers are not reading Miranda rights to detainees."

"Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd denied there has been a policy change covering detainees. "There has been no policy change nor blanket instruction for FBI agents to Mirandize detainees overseas," adding, "While there have been specific cases in which FBI agents have Mirandized suspects overseas, at both Bagram and in other situations, in order to preserve the quality of evidence obtained, there has been no overall policy change with respect to detainees."

Blame the generals - blame ROE - Never mind the REAL WEAK LINK - NOT THIS INDECISIVE DITHERING president - THIS Congress, and an under-funded, under-manned counter-insurgency.

This administration has elected to conduct its Afghanistan business through MSM via leaks and rumors. The tactic being to weaken us, split us, turn us against our generals weaken our resolve and strenthen the resolve of our enemy.

This entire process reeks of politics and the hands of slimy Chicago fixers Emanuel and Axelrod.

“Deepen, exacerbate existing problems, crises, differences, and if they don’t exist, create them or convincingly claim that they exist, and then deepen, exacerbate them...and profit [politically, ideologically and even financially] the most from them in any way you can, and, in the resulting chaos, blame our enemies for the whole thing.”

It seems to be working. They play chess while you are busy playing checkers.

I agree with the author and everyone else. Send 30,000 lawyers instead! You could send a million troops with their hands tied and they are simply targets. My daughter has been talking about volunteering for deployment.. what can I say, chip off the old block!
I do not support this action unless we are planning to save whom we can, then make the place completely uninhabitable. A place where not even kudzu grows.

If we withdraw, the Taliban will retake the Country and stop the farming of the Opium Poppy again. It restarted after we took over.

You're wrong, man. Time to clean out the nest completely.

... and if we are unwilling to CLEAN IT OUT (Decisively!) then we should get out of there. We cannot fight a "politically correct" war taking the "middle ground" between our safety and the destruction of our enemies. So pull out, let us get hit again, even harder this time, and then we'll have the "reason" go in and clean them out for good. The population in this country is like the mule ... sometimes it takes a 2 by 4 to get enough attention to do 'anything.'

We are fighting a War for which we are NOT COMITTED ... Obama's Uncomitted War.

"Limiting" the war because of the budget, because we might be in a recession? What the hell kind of policy is that? Deciding whether or not to kill people depending on the budget. Seriously, something is flawed.

We can leave a special Ops force in the nation.

We don't know need a massive committment.

If the Taliban come back, we have the mobility to return and strike them.

Remaining in this nation is just a waste of U.S. lives.
