GARY, Ind. -- Authorities said an angry parent attacked a fourth-grade teacher with a stapler at a Gary school while students watched.
Police arrested the woman shortly after the attack Thursday afternoon at Beveridge Elementary School.
Gary Community School Corp. spokeswoman Sarita Stevens said the woman entered the school from an unlocked door.
Stevens said the woman, who is expected to face assault charges, was upset over the teacher's disciplinary tactics with her child.
Stevens said the teacher was treated for head wounds at a local hospital.
A message requesting more information on the charges filed was left Saturday with police.
The woman had canceled an earlier meeting with the school's principal and director of elementary education.

Should be some interesting reading in next week’s WEEKLY READER about this. No? You mean they don’t cover anything except Man-made Global Warming? What has the Weekly Reader come to? I recall reading about Operation Deep Freeze and being glued to the newsprint; musta been about 1960?
Although no one has the right to do something like this, I wonder what prompted such anger in the mother?
What discipline was the teacher involved in with this woman’s child?
Did the teacher force him to wet his pants in front of the whole class?
Did she punish him for saluting the flag?
There may be a good reason the mother was so angry. I didn’t find it in the article. Therefore, I wouldn’t be too quick to judge the mother.
The violence was halted when the attacker paused to reload.........
Gary is little more than a run down, burnt out, suburb of Chicago.
Maybe the disciplinary action against the child was being stapled, so the parent used the same punishment.
I wonder if she was mad because the school forced her child to read the pornographic material recommended by the new school czar.....
I do agree that there could well be much more to the story. Even so, I maintain the mother’s behavior was at best counterproductive, and at worst inexcusable.
If she felt the teacher was being unfair, she could have brought that up in the scheduled meetings she had with the school’s principal and Director of Elementary Education earlier that day. Maybe she wouldn’t have gotten the answers she wanted, but she didn’t even *try* to resolve the issue with them. Instead, she canceled the meetings and chose to physically confront the teacher in front of her class. That solved nothing for the child, and got herself arrested.
If she believed the teacher was putting her child in danger or at risk for physical harm with her efforts to discipline the child, then she should have called the police. By getting herself arrested for assault, she again solved nothing, and arguably weakened her position against the teacher’s actions(if indeed inappropriate behavior existed).

God forbid one of those Eagle Scouts has one stashed in his car.
