MOSCOW (Reuters) - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in Moscow on Sunday to ink billions of dollars of weapons deals and for talks on a landmark nuclear deal that could significantly widen atomic fuel imports from Russia.

India, along with China, is one of Russia's biggest clients for arms sales but New Delhi has been upset in recent years by long delays in the delivery of a refurbished Soviet-era aircraft carrier under a $1.6 billion (9.72 million pounds) contract.

The signing of arms deals and talks on a civilian nuclear deal to widen uranium fuel deliveries are set to take centre stage in the three-day visit, officials said.

Singh met Russian President Dmitry Medvedev for an informal dinner after arrival on Sunday and is also set to meet Russia's powerful prime minister, Vladimir Putin.

Indian rupees for Russian military hardware. Singh knows the China threat has been upped the ante.

Note the smug-like looks of the Russian honor guard soldiers at the Indian PM.

Their smug look is not directed at the Indian PM, it’s what Russian soldiers do when in formation. That’s a minor point, and not my issue.

The current US administration has, in less than a year, undone decades of work to woo India away from Russia’s influence.
Sickening.

Isn’t Mr. Singh the dude who was here last week when the two ragheads from Virginia crashed the White House Dinner in his honor?

At least the Indians can feel confident in Russian security.

IMHO, after the fiasco that Obama has made of the Crasher-gate scandel, I would not be surprised for any world leader to tell Obama he needs to go to their country before their leaders feel safe stepping in ours.

Yes. India is in great danger if that railroad between China and Pakistan goes through.

Yeah, he is. Technically that makes him a person from a minority community.(Sikhs make up 2% of the Indian population) Sikhs are however so ingrained into the public consciousness in India that almost no one thinks of them as being different. They make up 15 to 20% of the Indian army and along with the Gurkhas and the Rajputs have a formidable reputation as fierce warriors.

The Prime Minister is a quiet, self effacing person even as he happens to be one of the world’s top economists.
