Dear Friends of Marriage,
On Monday, at 1pm, the New Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing and vote on same-sex marriage. If passed out of committee, the bill could be voted on by the full Senate as early as Thursday.
Please make time to call the Senate Judiciary Committee members today. And if theres any way you can make time to attend the hearing on Monday, your presence will be GREATLY appreciated!
Our opponents are organizing the most massive crowd ever. They know this is a do or die moment for same-sex marriage in New Jersey at least for the next 4 years. Once Governor Christie takes office in January, hes promised to veto any same-sex marriage bill that reaches his desk.
All of us are busy this time of year, but we have to protect marriage for the next 4 weeks. The first step is to contact the Senate Judiciary Committee right now.
Heres what I need you to do!
1) Call the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Urge them to vote NO on the same-sex marriage bill. A lame duck session is no time to push through a same-sex marriage bill that has been too controversial for the legislature to touch for the past four years.
Sen. Paul Sarlo (Chair): (201) 804-8118
Sen. John Girgenti (Vice-Chair): (973) 427-1229
Sen. Bill Baroni: (609) 631-9988
Sen. Christopher Bateman: (908) 526-3600
Sen. Jennifer Beck: (732) 933-1591
Sen. Gerard Cardinale: (201) 567-2324
Sen. Nia Gill: (973) 509-0388
Sen. Joseph Kyrillos: (732) 671-3206
Sen. Raymond Lesnick: (908) 624-0880
Sen. Nicholas Scutari: (908) 587-0404
Sen. Bob Smith: (732) 752-0770
Sen. Brian Stack: (201) 861-5091
Sen. Loretta Weinberg: (201) 928-0100
2) Attend the hearing on Monday! We need as many people as possible to show up at the State House on Monday for the hearing. Same-sex marriage advocates will be out in force, and it is essential that we make a strong showing. The hearing starts at 1pm and may last most of the day, but please come for whatever time you can.
The hearing is being held in the State House Annex, Committee Room 4 on the 1st floor. Click here for directions and parking info, and please plan to arrive by noon, as the committee room will fill up quickly.
3) Send an email to your own state senators and assemblymembers. Even while the attention is focused on Mondays committee vote, we need to keep up the pressure on every state official, especially members of the New Jersey Senate, who could be asked to vote on the bill yet next week. Click here to email your state senators and assemblymembers.
Our opponents are pouring resources into New Jersey. Please take action right now to help protect marriage over these next four weeks!
(I maintain an unofficial ping list for New Jersey-related news. If you want on or off the list, send me FReepmail.)
Those not from New Jersey can still contribute to NOM for the cause in NJ. They’re a fantastic, unique, dedicated organization.
I’ll be calling my Senator, Bateman.
Isn’t it a good thing that states are a party to the marriage license? The marriage license should be regarded as what it really is: at contract between some people and the state to register those people as a tax paying/receiving unit in the welfare state.
Stop fetishizing the marriage license. It does not make a marriage. Better yet, end the existence of such a document.
It is time for marriage to be regarded as what it really is: a covenant between a man, a woman, and God.
Bump
That is correct -- and states must also recognize this. It does not help the cause when civic bodies publicly flout the laws of God, even if the underlying reason is only a taxation reason. It is the worst kind of "setting a bad example."
State recognition is the problem. What does state recognition provide? Tax breaks? Tax penalties? A coveted place in the welfare state?
As many people say to homosexuals, what does a marriage license, or state recognition of marriage, provide that another contract will not?
Whatever happened to good old fashioned shame, shunning, and ostracism?
It "provides" nothing. That wasn't my point. My point is that states and nations, king and emperors, must recognize the kingship of Christ.
>Whatever happened to good old fashioned shame, shunning, and ostracism?
I'm all for that. I have been trying to "bring it back into style" for years, but one man can't do the job alone. Thankfully, more and more people seem to be getting back to this (correct) attitude of dealing with such things. But it doesn't help when states (in cahoots with widespread media) target and influence the weak-minded among the citizenry.
Between the scumbags in DC and the swine in Trenton, I am exhausted! And extremely ticked off!
If that's the case, then let's get the state out of the business of marriage completely.
The government that governs best governs least.
Bateman’s number goes right to voice mail... and it’s filled!
Take Action: NJ Homosexual Marriage Bill may be up for vote on Monday, December 7
