The U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron is an Air Combat Command unit composed of eight pilots (including six demonstration pilots), four support officers, four civilians and about 110 enlisted people performing in more than 29 Air Force specialties.

The Thunderbirds' aerial demonstration is a mix of formation flying and solo routines. The pilots perform approximately 40 maneuvers in a demonstration. The entire show, including ground and air, runs about one hour. The air show season lasts from March to November, with the winter months used to train new members.

Nope, but they will be at Shaw. They have not been at Shaw since 2005.

Why isn’t the article tilted - Thunderbirds announce their 2010 schedule?

Shouldn’t it be 2010 and not 2009?

I used to work in a building that overlooked the local airport. When the Blue Angels arrived, we KNEW it. Hard to focus on work when each of us was casual darting to the windows for a better look!

~ 2010 ~ Schedule.

I must say this time of year (off season) was great @ Nellis AFB - they would be on a show every Tuesday (perhaps Weds) at noon!

We’re thinking about driving down, staying with the MIL, and getting back home (NH) Sunday. But it’s a while yet, so we’ll have to see.

We could do without the ejection seat demo, though.

There hasn’t been an airshow at Moffett Field in a number of years. The Thunderbirds were at the last one (2005 maybe?).

Air Force pilots are great, but Navy are the best.

“We could do without the ejection seat demo, though.”

Sadly I saw one crash in the 80s when they were flying T-38s, they had already lost one earlier that year, then the remaining members - 5 or 6 of them crashed into the desert floor in Nevada in the off season.

That’s when they made the switch to F16s.

“Sadly I saw one crash in the 80s when they were flying T-38s,”

I was at the performance at Hill AFB in 1980 (I think) when a Thunderbird crashed south of the base during the show. My dad was a Colonel in the USAF at the time and had to do some of the preliminary work on the investigation.

The Missing Man Formation from that Hill AFB show in May of 1981, after checking on the photo this was the 1st accident followed by the others. Thunderbirds' Missing Man Formation Some more photos from Hill on that day and I'm not sure if it was the same day or a special event - when the Shuttle Enterprise visited; http://www.flickr.com/photos/real_bostonian/sets/1699924/
