Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R) -- two of conservatives' favorite anti-illegal immigration firebrands and potential 2010 candidates for statewide office in Arizona -- have teamed up to raise more than $100,000 as part of a holiday party being held Dec. 5.
A recent poll from Rasmussen Reports showed Arpaio leading all comers in the Arizona governor's race, while Hayworth is in a statistical tie with Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in a hypothetical primary match-up.
Both men have been coy about their intentions but any sort of electoral alliance between the two would strike fear into the hearts of centrist Republicans in the state.
Their holiday party, hosted by Arpaio at the home of GOP strategist and PR guru Jason Rose in Paradise Valley, Ariz., is raising money for Hayworth's Freedom in Truth Trust, dedicated to helping pay off the former congressman's legal fees. Hayworth lost his 2006 congressional race amidst questions about his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Ambramoff.
On his Web site, Hayworth said he still has "outstanding legal bills that total in the hundreds of thousands of dollars," due to the "false charge of corruption."
Rose told CQ Politics that Arpaio and Hayworth are "longtime friends and ideological soul mates on the issue of illegal immigration" and that Arpaio would support Hayworth should he decide to take on McCain.

Yes
Name one Senator who doesn’t consider that his/her family has the right in perpetuity to a seat in Congress.
Rove was “personally managing” the latter part of Hayworth’s reelection campaign from Scottsdale, just 3 years ago, wasn’t he?
Something tells me that the Arizona public has found "diversity" somewhat fatiguing. Perhaps it has something to do with crime, aggressive illegals outside Home Depot, high taxes, more crime... They think Sheriff Joe knows how to fix it, and cheap.
This could be popular! Methinks I'll buy some futures in bologna sandwiches and pink underwear.
Hayworth has gone over this ad nauseum on his radio show, and spoke about it during his re election run. Of course he didn’t want Bush help. He wouldn’t get it anyway. Listen to his show, or go look it up yourself. I’m not your “boy”
OK, I’ll accept your reference. I don’t get his show as best as I can tell
“I distinctly remember that Karl Rove threw one or the other out, Tancredo or Hayworth, no real difference since both are very anti-Amnesty Rs. It is real clear what the fatazz Rove, GWB, McCain were and are, Traitors one and all.”
I know Tancredo got a major “diss” from the White House. I’m not sure he was launched, as it were. I agree that McLame,
Bush, and Rove are RINO scum.
“Arpaio for Governor of Arizona? You can be assured that the DOJ will fabricate enough evidence against him in their investigation that he will never be elected to office. This DOJ should be investigated for criminal activity. As soon as we retake the House and the Senate. “
It won’t stick. Arpaio is a highly decorated former high level federal law enforcementofficial who is squeaky clean, and he also knows where the bones are buried. ;-)
I sure hope so. They will ruin him if they get the chance. Lies, lies, lies. It’s the way the Dems operate.
“Lies, lies, lies. Its the way the Dems operate.”
It is far worse than their lies of the past. We are under a fascist dictatorship now.
We conservatives need to take back the Republican Party, and the best and only way to do this is to get personally involved in politics, starting at the grass roots level. People whine about RINOs in the Republican Party, and I agree. So attend the primary caucuses, become precinct leaders, get your candidates nominated, and then contribute all the money you can afford and all of the time you can afford to working for your candidates.
As sympathetic as I am to a third party, there is no realistic chance of that happening because when all of the people willing to attend protests sit down in a room to hammer out a platform theyll have so many differences and so little experience in how to resolve them that theyll fracture into a dozen cliques and never accomplish anything. Furthermore, even if that hurdle could be overcome, building the machinery for a third party from the precinct to national level and everything in between is a monumental task costing tens of millions of dollars.
It would be far, far better to take over the machinery of the Republican Party, and that really wouldnt be all that difficult. All it would take is for several million people to get up off their butts, resolve to be committed to the task of changing things, and go to every party meeting that exists and outvote anyone else there.
I took the time to look it up and couldn't find a thing....even on his radio show site. Since you made the claim, show some proof or don't make it again. "I heard it somewhere" doesn't count.
I did find this on his site:
Yet something else occurred on that trip that is worthy of mention, because it demonstrates that our President is just as gracious as he is stubborn. As Air Force One was taking off from Yuma International Airport en route back to Andrews Air Force Base, the President placed a call to the Yancey residence in Yuma, to speak with my father-in-law.
After the two chatted for about ten minutes, the President hung up, and then said to me, J.D., Mr. Yancey is a great guy! Hes a man who loves his country, and served her well as a Marine. Were blessed as a nation to have so many men like him.
In a subsequent note I wrote the President, I thanked him for making the call: you not only made my father-in-laws day by phoning him; you made his life.
Last Tuesday, that earthly life ended.
William L. Buck Yancey, a retired Marine, died of lung cancer at the age of 77.
Yes. Very good...
Now, Hayworth, declare today!
If Hayworth and Arpaio don’t IMMEDIATELY leave the GOP and run on Third Party tickets, then they’re nothing but as bunch of RINOS!!!!!!!
Please come to Oklahoma...and tell that to my two Senators.
Please!
Before you call somebody out, mister you better be able to prove it. I’ll post anything I want, whenever I want, and I don’t need your permisso to do it.
Hayworth is very pro military. No news to me. And I heard it from the man himself. Now, go pound sand.
“If Hayworth and Arpaio dont IMMEDIATELY leave the GOP and run on Third Party tickets, then theyre nothing but as bunch of RINOS!!!!!!!”
Are you okay?
