In state tuition for illegal aliens: why are American students being forced to subsidize illegals?
The Collins Report ^ | December 10, 2009 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

In-state tuition rates for illegals attending State Universities are a lingering headache from the Bush era. It forces struggling young Americans to subsidize the very people who are forcing them out of their own classroom seats.

Even states with high unemployment and rising tuition rates are offering this benefit to their illegal aliens in violating federal law: Title 8, Chapter 14, Section1623 stipulating only legal resident Americans and/or legal resident aliens can receive this benefit. Across the country state university systems that are offering this expensive benefit are raising tuition’s begging the question: why are American college students being forced to subsidize illegal aliens?

How did we get here?

This misguided largesse stems from anticipation that something called The DREAM Act would become law. The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act; (TDA) was introduced in 2002 by a group of Democrats doing what Democrats do and a few Republicans eager to out Democrat the Democrats.

TDA was aimed at correcting the alleged “inequity” of illegal alien high school graduates who illegally attended high school here being denied the “right” to be treated as legal residents for purposes of being granted “in state” tuition rates at public universities.

These illegal aliens must have sneaked into America before turning 16 and have evaded deportation by the federal government for at least five years. Once granted this treatment they would enjoy six years of immunity from forcible deportation.

Fortunately this ridiculous bill never passed, but there are still nine red ink drenched states illegally offering this “benefit.”

Since the Democrats assumed total control TDA has continually died in Committee because they no longer feel the need to pretend they care about illegal aliens who want to go to college.

In the depths of Obama’s recession it’s time to end this nonsense..

Illegals are taking classroom seats from American students whose parents are paying to subsidize the illegals. What's wrong with this picture?

Reminds me of this famous letter:
Source

The Honorable Tom Harkin
731 Hart Senate Office Building
Phone (202) 224 3254
Washington DC,
20510

Dear Senator Harkin,

As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out. Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.

Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as "in-state" tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son. Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.

Your Loyal Constituent,
Donald R.......
Burlington, IA

“Illegals are taking classroom seats from American students “

Here in the cornfields, the MAP grants have been cut. This has forced many JR and SR college students to drop out or not return next semester. There are plenty of seats.

So illegals are not “taking a seat” from anyone. That they are “taking money” is a more accurate description.

As there are empty seats, the administration is desperate to fill those seats by any means necessary.

It has always been that most illegal college students are non-Hispanic. Here in the cornfields, most student illegals did not sneak in. They entered from Asia/Africa on a temporary visa which has now expired. But yes many also just drove accross from Canada as that border crossing requires little if any check of status. Canada seems to be the preferred path of the many illegal European and Chinese students, but not of the Korean or South Asian Students.

I don’t know about all states, but here in NC it is not just the students and parents that pay, it is all taxpayers. In-state students are heavily subsidized by the state (read taxpayers) while out-of-state students pay close to the full cost of their education.

As the US CITIZEN parent of a graduating HS senior, it is appalling to me that, because of our household income, we must pay MORE for my son to go to college than other students. College tuition used to be a NUMBER all had to pay - sliding scale tuition is a wealth redistribution.

Do you have any idea how many scholarships are out there for illegals?!? Heck, one state university gives a special degree plan bonus with an automatic admittance to grad school for illegals. Throw in all the grants and scholarships and they have a free ride. But aren’t I so happy to foot the bill for illegals when my lower middle class white kid, who happens to be #3 in his class, can’t get a dime.

it is wrong.

i moved out-of-state, got a driver’s license, voted, etc.,

but did not get in-state tuition.

so, i couldn’t afford to attend the university.

meanwhile, i’m paying for aliens to do what i cannot do.
