THE EPA'S CARBON BOMB FIZZLES
WSJ ^ | December 10, 2009 | Kim Strassel

"...President Obama, having failed to get climate legislation, didn't want to show up to the Copenhagen climate talks with a big, fat nothing. So the EPA pulled the pin. In doing so, it exploded its own threat.

Far from alarm, the feeling sweeping through many quarters of the Democratic Congress is relief. Voters know cap-and-trade is Washington code for painful new energy taxes. With a recession on, the subject has become poisonous in congressional districts. Blue Dogs and swing-state senators watched in alarm as local Democrats in the recent Virginia and New Jersey elections were pounded on the issue, and lost their seats.

But now? Hurrah! It's the administration's problem! No one can say Washington isn't doing something; the EPA has it under control. The agency's move gives Congress a further excuse not to act.

"The Obama administration now owns this political hot potato," says one industry source. "If I'm [Nebraska Senator] Ben Nelson or [North Dakota Senator] Kent Conrad, why would I ever want to take it back?"

"...All the more so, in Congress's view, because the EPA "command and control" threat may yet prove hollow. Now that the endangerment finding has become reality, the litigation is also about to become real. Green groups pioneered the art of environmental lawsuits. It turns out the business community took careful notes.

Industry groups are gearing up for a legal onslaught; and don't underestimate their prospects. The leaked emails from the Climatic Research Unit in England alone are a gold mine for those who want to challenge the science underlying the theory of manmade global warming."

I knew it was a hollow threat. Let us just see the Dear Leader forced to try to impose Cap n' Tax by bureaucratic fiat. The Blue Dogs are only to happy to let him do it himself rather than involve them.

Further proof that Chicago-style politics doesn’t play too well on the larger stage.

The Dear Leader should have taken the time to think things through before this latest bit of thuggishness.

If I was a dem Senator I’d say fine, you go right ahead.

Now if only Obama would get the Dept. of Health and Human Services to do the same with health insurance, his porkulus/cap and tax/socialized medicine trifecta would be complete. :)

Obamabi thought he was big spit because he ran Chicago. He is a pirahna in a shark tank. There are politicians that have shaken down whole friggin states, not just one city. They brought him on board to play ball, but he wants to own the team. Not gonna happen. The Republicans need only to stay out of the way as the Democrats rip him to shreds over the course of the next three years.

Now if Congress would grow a pair and defund EPA down the road to rein in their outrageous behavior.

Ah, the Law of Unintended Consequences.

He could promise all of the wavering Blue Dogs all manner of cushy jobs with the Soros organizations and well-paid chairs on the board of I.G. Farben (ahem! I meant G.E.) after the voters turn them out.

They just have to take him at his word, that’s all.

[[The Dear Leader should have taken the time to think things through before this latest bit of thuggishness.]]

What I winder htough, is where are the GOP making it CLEAR to the public that this administration was trying to use chicago-style thuggery against them? The GOP shoudl be screaming bloody murder- until the maisntream media has NO choice but to report it- but nope- all we get are a few weak-knee’d squeeks about it that the mainstream media ignores-

It’s so nice having a THUG in the presidency, and having hte mainstream media silent on exposing him- [/s] Can you imagine if a Republican tried even a small percentage of the thuggery this administration is doing? The mainstream media would be goign absolutely mental blatting about impeachment- but because Obama is the ‘media darling’ he could most likely literally and figuratively get away with murder and the press would cover for him

I don't see him anything more than a tadpole. That is not to say he is not surrounded by a tank full of sharks. Not even a piranha needs to say I won.

He never ran Chicago. He is a tool of those who do and did. Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod are running the policy shop in this administration. They feed text to TOTUS and it gets read by POTUS.

Tough. Because they are involved, like it or not. If they abdicate their legislative responsibilities to permit appointees to do the dirty, heavy lifting and claim they did not do anything, then the question becomes one of why they have not passed legislation to stop it.

Night time temperatures here have been below zero for a week, daytime highs in the single digits.

If they think they can freeze us out and then come home to a warm reception, they have another think coming.

Keep their feet to the fire, it is up to them to legislate against cap and trade, if need be.
