"Buy a Harley, Get a Gun" promotion sparks controversy (Video)
FOX 59 Indy ^ | December 11, 2009

A planned promotion to support Second Amendment rights gets pulled.

On December 1st, Bloomington's Herald Times posted a database of current gun permits.

The local Harley-Davidson shop in Bloomington was outraged. A long-time advertiser with the paper, owners saw it as an unnecessary and dangerous practice.

They planned a promotion with Cosner's Guns - Buy a Harley, Get a Gun. Just as soon as it was planned, it was pulled.

The NRA has blasted the newspaper as well, saying the list makes it easy for criminals to target homes with or without guns.

What's a gun permit? We don't have them here.

So much for the American-communist claim that registering firearms does not lead to the databasing of private information of the citizenry.

They want registration and permitting so they know who to go after when confiscation begins.

I know what would be a good database. A list of those people and their addresses who DO NOT have carry permits. The header could be something like, “Safe Homes to Invade.”

“Buy a Harley, Get a Gun” promotion sparks controversy

Reminds me of a television advert I’d see on TV in Oklahoma
DECADES ago.
One sewing machine shop had a special that is most easily described thusly:
“Buy a sewing machine for the missus; get a free shotgun for yourself!”

Yep, that was back in the good old days...

“They want registration and permitting so they know who to go after when confiscation begins.”

In Tennessee there is not a gun registration requirement, and a person with a carry permit does not have to own a firearm. There were several people at my qualification class who had to rent a handgun from the training provider.

I have a handgun carry permit, and two my handguns were acquired before 1968; so, no government entity knows about them.

I hope you buy your ammo with cash and not a credit card.

You worry that some government entity is going to sift through every debit or credit card transaction looking for ammo purchases? They are going to every sporting goods store in the US looking for the names of people who buy one box of .38 S&W? If they look at my debit card transactions they will only see the retailer and amount. It will not tell anyone whether it is ammo or fishing bait. The US government who cannot manage Medicaid can also collect data on ammunition purchases from everyone? It is the fallacy of “perfect government” where they can only perform nefarious conspiracies efficiently.

Again, Tennessee is one of those “gun friendly” states where a separate record of ammo purchases are not kept.

I think your underestimating how easy it would be to do a search like this. If they can scan electronic communications both (voice and text,) for terrorist conversations I'm sure looking for guns and ammunition purchases would be a cinch on Visa and MasterCard data basis.
