However, to make a living, these pretty boys pretend to be tough.

Which is why off screen they are likely to be shunned by the same rekijo

The Strongman or Lineman type body would probably be more realistic for the hulking warrior.

Metrosexual pretty boys rule in those animations or comic books. Frequently, they are dressed like 19-th century European prince, with half-Caucasian look. Especially the ones girls love to watch.

No argument. Which is why both Liberal beta males and their battery-pleasured female co-miserates loath and fear Sarah Palin:

Hot Conservative female (still, 5 kids later) with a handsome Alpha male hubby.

I saw some of them in Japanese historical drama. They all act like Samurai, but they look like pretty boys under their heavy Samurai make-up. The actors pool must be devoid of tough looking guys. Many have baby-jaws.:-)

Yes, what’s up with the very large eyes?

Excellent observations, very informative. It seems obvious now that you’ve posted, but I wasn’t thinking along those lines, myself. (Just that a guy either has clothes on, or he doesn’t.)

My personal fav to date is Takeda Shingen. Mishima was...odd.

Yes, in many respects, Mishima is ‘not normal.’:-)

Shojo art styles suck. I can’t even look at them...

Look at the musculature on this figure (Sarpedon, son of Zeus) from the 6th century B.C. Do you think a real fighter from the Golden Age of Greece would have been "sculpted" like that, or do you think it's an artistic convention for the depiction of epic heroes?

Che is a great example of that. All most kids know about him is that one photo, but it makes a fortune on posters and t shirts.

Exactly. In the old days you had the Japanese John Wayne or Steve McQueen actors as samurai: Toshiro Mifune, Tatsuya Nakadai, and more recently Ken Watanabe.

Now you have former boy-band girlie men dressed up to look tough.

I like Chow Yun-Fat. Very mature. (I know, he’s Chinese.)

A guy with big eyes (one third of face,) small mouth, baby jaw, sharp-edged hairstyle. Sometimes in 19th century formal military uniform(kind of ones one wears at parade or formal ceremony,) asking you to have Waltz together.... LOL.

Saw a history channel story on gladiators, and the fat layer also helped when they were cut. It tended to protect the muscles and large arteries from slices.

I train firefighters and tell the body builder types not to try and prepare for a competition while in the academy. Guys can drop ten pounds in fluids even while hydrating properly. If they tried to get in "competition mode" while training, we'd be sending them to the hospital after a couple of hours in bunker gear on the drill field.
