Dems represent at Palin event (They seem worried...) [Palin's Hometown]
The Bonner County Daily Bee ^ | December 12, 2009 | Keith Kinnaird

Posted on 12/12/2009 10:43:28 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

SANDPOINT — Local Democrats turned out Thursday to demonstrate that not everybody in Bonner County buys what Sarah Palin is selling.

“We just wanted to show that there were some people who don’t think Sarah Palin is the greatest thing since sliced bread,” said Laura Bry, chair of the Bonner County Democrat Central Committee.

Bry was among a dozen like-minded folks who gathered at the Sandpoint Business & Events Center to express their viewpoint. Some carried signs, the tone of which covered a broad spectrum of sentiment.

One sign read, “Thank God You Lost” and was adorned with a smiley face and a cross, while another read, “Stop Making Things Up.”

Bry, who carried the latter sign, said she went to the former vice presidential candidate’s book-signing event to peacefully protest, not to pick a fight.

“We worked on being polite and not getting into verbal arguments,” said Bry.

Not that there weren’t some harsh words, though.

Some Palin supporters, fresh from meeting a woman they deeply admire after standing in line all day, reacted strongly to the presence of Palin opponents.

There was some nasty jeering and some verbal confrontations.

“We didn’t really want to be anti-Palin,” Bry said of her segment of the protest group. “My best friend thinks Sarah Palin is just an awesome woman. I don’t want to be disrespectful to my neighbors and I don’t want to be disrespectful to Sarah Palin either. I just don’t agree with her on almost anything.”

Jenni Roberts-Martin said some of the Palin supporters’ vitriol was directed squarely at her and her children, but has no regrets about exercising her civil rights.

“I sincerely hope that’s the lesson my children take away from last night — that if you stand quietly and refuse to be baited, free speech is a valuable, inalienable right,” Roberts-Martin said in an e-mail to The Daily Bee.

Both Bry and Roberts-Martin praised Sandpoint Fire Chief Robert Tyler and Police Chief Mark Lockwood for smoothing some of the ruffled feathers.

Lockwood said it only took a straightforward reminder to ease tensions.

“We made it very plan: The woman that’s in there signing books is a staunch advocate of having these people out here and letting them exercise their right to do this and that pretty much diffused it,” he said.

Lockwood added that he was pleased with how the event ultimately unfolded and said there isn’t much he would do differently. He said one of the bigger factors of the evening was Palin’s deep roots in Bonner County.

“The big factor was her family knew so many people,” he said.

If the tables had been turned, someone would've been beaten up, just like at the townhalls.

Perhaps they don’t think that someone who is intelligent, attractive, morally sound, law-abiding, and patriotic should ever be in any political office.

There doesn’t seem to be much precedent for it.

Since when does the official arm of a political party turn out to trash a private citizen who does not hold and is not running for office?

She was marketing her book. Dems were free not to buy it. THAT’S FREE MARKET TO ALL OF US.

These protesters are nuts.

THESE PEOPLE DIDN’T KNOW THAT IT WAS STILL A BUSINESS, WITH ORDINARY AMERICAN WORKERS (e.g., people working at printing press, marketing staff, etc.) BENEFITING FOR PALIN’S GOOD SALES TURNOUTS.

AND GOOD PALIN BOOK SALES TURNOUTS WOULD MEAN MORE TAXES FOR OBAMA’S BIG GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER.

Geesh. DEMOCRATS ARE REALLY ANTI-BUSINESS.

Wow, I wonder if this reporter has an axe to grind. Let's see... number of Palin opponents quoted, two, number of Palin supporters quoted, zero. Number of protesters: "a dozen" which nevertheless represented a "broad spectrum" of sentiments. Number of supporters: who knows? Not newsworthy, I guess. But we do know that they directed "vitriol" squarely at children. And after the protesters went out of their way to be "disrespectful" or "anti-Palin", despite the fact that one of the children in the accompanying picture is carrying a sign that says "Sandpoint says: "Beat It" Sarah Palin. I guess in this reporter's (and that protester's) view, that's not anti-Palin, but I would submit that it certainly is disrespectful... to the people of Sandpoint, for whom these protesters presume to speak.

Er... I meant not to be disrespectful, of course.

Sandpoint is Governor Palin's birthplace.
This was coordinated from up high to the local Rat committees. They wanted to embarrass Palin in her place of birth.

They must think a dozen socialists equals thousands of Conservatives. I hope they think that way over the next 10 1/2 months.

I often would like to see a police report like this one I ammaking up...

This woman/man came up behind me and started yelling insults at Sarah. Then he/she attempted to bite off my elbow!

Or
He/she attempted to hit me in the knee with his/her nose!

But conservatives don’t often do such things..

I think since they are very, very afraid that she might be the “one” to beat “THE ONE”.

ROFL... What a great quote for the media to capture! It really is PRICELESS... Instead of reflecting as a negative on Palin, this Dem Chair just implied that the vast majority of folks in Bonner County DO think Sarah is the best thing since sliced bread! Can't say I disagree with THAT! LOL Thanks so much for sharing this! :)

Despite what the reporter may have been trying to do the quotes captured do NOT do what he intended, IMHO. Especially the quote from the chair which implies that the vast majority of folks in Bonner Country DO think she’s the best thing since sliced bread! LOL

Don’t get me wrong though — I agree with you regarding the reporter’s bias completely. I just love it when they are ineffective... Most “regular” folks can see through such one-sided articles, frankly.

Actually, the only problem I have with their PROTEST is that they were making a POLITICAL PROTEST at a NON POLITICAL EVENT.

Excellent point...

It does just prove that she remains viable, and a threat to the Marxists’ plans - even though she ISN’T in office, and isn’t running! Since when has ANY former candidate freaked out the Dems this badly? :) LOL

I do get your point though — she is technically a private citizen, but she has transcended politics judging by her reception on the Tonight Show last night. She possesses something they can’t put their finger on as none of their prospective candidates nor elected or appointed officials can hold a candle to her, really... At least not when she’s being held back like she was by McCain’s campaign staff...
