Frequent flier fears for future after midair incident

John Reed keeps flying, but he wonders if an incident on board an American Airlines flight to Dallas will ground him — or even lead to federal charges.

"I have this hanging over my head for an indefinite period of time," he said. "I just need some closure."

Reed, who lives in California, received a federal warning for his alleged behavior on December 6 aboard Flight 614 from Sacramento to Dallas. The warning accused him of threatening, intimidating and/or interfering with a flight.

Reed was sitting in the first class section when he asked for a glass of orange juice during breakfast service — but he said he got more than OJ from one of the flight attendants.

"She launched into a one-minute tirade about how I should not be asking for orange juice at this time of her service," Reed recalled.

Fox & Friends interviewed a woman who was seated in first class with this passenger who was, by all accounts verbally abused by a flight attendant, who added insult to injury by filing a formal complaint against him--an Executive Platinum flier (meaning he flew at least 100,000 miles on AA last year)--that will, in affect, potentially ground him from flying on any US airline.

According to this morning's interview with the fellow traveler, not even one of the other passengers in first class corroborates the flight attendant's reason for filing the complaint.

She was probably upset at the proposed cuts in Medicare.

Just out of curiosity, what race was the flight attendant?

I think the passenger can sue this lady for defamation. Especially since she filed false statements to the FAA. If he has 5 witnesses I would have her pummeled in federal court.

They're next.

No he’s not racist. I got a similar treatment in a Red Carpet club from an Amish attendant when I asked about changing a ticket which is her friggin job) She proceeded to tell me that things are soon going to be different with Obama in the WH. They really think that they have immunity to be outright a-holes because the Kenyan Klod is in DC.

Jees! I started reading this thinking he was one of the “me first” prima donnas that are unfortunately all too common on flights these days, but nothing could be further from the truth. All the witnesses backed up his story.

What a witch! The flight attendant needs to be fired, no re-assigned.

As a AA EXPLAT myself I have been following this with great interest since Koss blogged about it.

On our Frequent Flyers forums (like flyer talk) this is all the talk.

This is NOT untypical of AA Flight Attendants. I (along with countless other Elite AA travellers) may have not had such a bad incident, but more than enough I have been treated like dirt by the highly unionized Flight Attendants.

It is now so bad in the front cabins of AA, that most of the elite (ie... frequent fliers) travelers now know what buttons not to push.

Great things NOT to ask an AA flight attendant:

1. Pre takeoff drink (which used to be the norm)
2. Delayed dinner (in case you want to take a nap)
3. Immigration documents (in case you are flying to another country. AA is supposed to hand them out, but mostly they dont)
4. Any connecting gate information

Basically, attitude is “shut up and sit down and dont talk oherwise you are a terrorist and we have carte blanche authority to report you”

Osama bin Laden must be laughing now with his goat seeing how he has once again managed to screw America

"'For the next several months, I am going to get on flights, wondering, am I being flagged? Is this particular flight attendant going to be on that flight?,' Reed said. 'I was told that this was a serious issue.'""

Asking for a glass of OJ's serious, huh.
Having an old bag either suffering a serious bout of PMS, burnout or both is a LOT more serious a threat. To AAs.

Reed must use every FF mile with AAs he has, ASAP.
Afterward Reed would need his head examined if he flew AAs ever again.

Yet another in a growing list citing inmates running the institution. LOL

Sadly, that was my exact first thought too. Maybe I’m wrong, but I see a potential behavior pattern here.

Saw the F & F interview also. One of the most interesting things was John the Passenger said after the FA went off on him she said, “ Is this the first time you’ve ever been in 1st Class?” She also asked him to come to the front of the plane by the cockpit door so she could talk to him in private, but the passengers told him not to go because he wouldn’t have a witness. They also said if she felt threatened by this passenger, why would she want to get him to a private location. This FA needs some customer service refresher training.

You are correct, in another life I used to fly for the airlines. Since 911 passengers who question bad service get threats of interference with a flight crew. My suggestion is to fly foreign airlines when flying international, I found the Asian and European airlines to generally have superior service. In addition I only fly when I absolutely have to, this is merely one of the many hassles associated with flying. As the saying goes “Time to spare go by air”

I’m a Platinum sitting on an aa flight as I type this and I must say that I haven’t encountered any problems with the Flight attendants .

The ticket agents are another story

I agree about the foreign airlines. We are able to fly out of NY,if Jet Blue flies there were on it.Everyone knows the drill and we have never had a problem.
