"America is the biggest loser."

You've got an AMEN here, Romney (if he even runs) is two years away, government run health care is NOW.

“What is wrong with Zotting the romneybots?”

Problem is, you have to IDENTIFY them first. Some people here are about as successful at that as school administrators are at identifying weapons.

Now this is a good Romney thread. If this is enacted we are obligated to campaign in 2010 and 2012 against RomneyCare, if not directly certainly by suggestion.

In Massachusetts you cant win the Governors office if you state you will outlaw abortion. Its a communist state, home of the Chappaquiddick swimmer. Killing the less fortunate is a tradition there.

You are most likely correct. However, that does not mean you compromise such a key issue simply to get elected. If he wanted to run for office somewhere and thought he could not get elected in Mass because of this one issue, then he should have run in Michighan or Utah. I'm pretty sure he has houses and roots in those areas also. I understand compromise, but compromising on a key issue such as this is not acceptable IMO.

I'm a believer in RINO relativism. I was delighted when Romney was elected governor of Massachusetts -- he's the closest thing to a conservative we'll ever see in that state. Similarly, I was delighted when Rudy was elected mayor of NYC, and I'd love to see him run for governor of NY, or for the Senate from that state.

I believe that RINOs have their place -- in liberal states where a RINO is the best you're likely to get. Yes, I believe that half a loaf is better than none.

BUT -- Romney or Rudy on the national stage? NO! A thousand times no!

Romney will be left telling angry primary voters that the only real difference between the two plans is that he implemented his policies at the state level, while Obama did it through the federal government.

You know, one thing I miss about the old newspaper days was how you could use yesterday's news to line the bird cage.

Romney is so yesterday's news. Please, somebody let him know while there is still time. We're going bird shopping later today.

He is a slick talking leftist from a marxist state

If only that were the worst of it. He's also an uprincipled smear merchant and backstabbing traitor, willing and eager to turn on his own party and/or the conservative movement.

Remember, although usually described as "McCain aides," that it was Romney people, temporarily with the McCain campaign, who leaked damaging (dis)information about Palin to the opposition and opposition press during the 2008 campaign, and continued the smears after.

Did Romney know about these activities? I don't know, for sure, but I'd bet a very large amount on, "Hell, Yes!" He certainly did nothing to call off his dogs when their names became publicly known.

It's not just I don't trust him because he's superficial and a "slick" talker. I don't just distrust his words, I distrust his actions, and his core loyalty, indeed the existence of any core loyality, to person, to party and to principle.

Maybe I overreact, but I'm not willing to take a chance on this guy.

While I don't like or support Massachusetts' health care system, and think it was a bad decision on Romney's part, to say that there's no difference between policy made on the federal level and policy made on the state level, even if they're substantially similar, is to completely undermine the notion of federalism - one of the fundamental conceptual and functional components of the republic and a key tenet of conservatism.

OTOH, to suggest that a governor who implemented at the state level the same type of behemoth government entitlement that Zero is trying to implement at the federal level will other than that govern conservatively is -at best - very naive.
