Moscow, Russia (CNN) -- The remains of Adolf Hitler were burned in 1970 by Soviet KGB agents and thrown into a river in Germany on direct orders from the spy agency's chief, a top Russian security official said this week.
The head archivist of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) -- the successor to the former Soviet Union's KGB -- confirmed for the first time the chain of events that led to the disposal of Hitler's body, and who ordered the operation, in an exclusive interview with Russia's Interfax news agency.
Gen. Vasily Khristoforov told Interfax in an interview published Monday that previously secret documents show that KGB chief Yuri Andropov, with prior consent from the Soviet Communist Party leadership, ordered a top secret operation to destroy the remains of Hitler, his wife Eva Braun, Nazi Germany's propaganda chief, Joseph Goebbels; and Goebbels' entire family.
Khristoforov said according to the documents, Andropov's decision to destroy the remains of the Nazi leaders and their family members was motivated by the fears of the KGB and Soviet Communist Party leadership that Hitler's burial site could become a place of worship for supporters of fascist ideas.

Actually, I have it on good authority that Hitler is running a 7-11 in Argentina with Elvis as his clerk.
I like the version that Hitler’s remains were taken to Moscow, then later burned and flushed down the toilet.

I read an “alternative account” of this awhile back in the publication of the submarine enthusiast group Sharkhunters. The account was from a Spanish Nazi who spied for Hitler in Spain for most of the war, but spent the last year of the war in that same bunker complex that contained Hitler. He claims that Hitler had a double who stayed to die in the bunker. He claims that Hitler and Eva were both drugged to get them out of the bunker but they overdosed Eva and she died. He says they got Hitler to a boat on the North Sea. He claims that he was later allowed to meet with a man he believed to be Hitler somewhere around Tierra del Fuego 10 or 15 years after the war.
Altho I do not vouch for the accuracy of any of this, it does suggest another motive for destroying the body. If it was not actually Hitler, it would be very embarassing for the Soviets if it were proven that Hitler escaped their grasp when they were supposed to have Berlin surrounded.
Unless, of course, some poor hapless Navy Seals would have punched him during his capture; in which case they would be in prison with (or maybe instead of) him.

How would the body parts prove he “escaped their grasp” either way? Assuming first that they’d let anyone test them, even if they were proved not to be Hitler’s, it wouldn’t mean Hitler survived. It would only mean that the Soviets never found his remains. Only proof of Hitler existing somewhere else, for instance Argentina, after the war would be proof that he had “escaped”.

Sorry, didn’t mean to put it that way. Obviously, if the body parts were Hitler’s it would prove he didn’t get away.

Thorough cremation was not possible under the circumstances—for instance, look at how Goebbels corpse was easily recognizable.
Regardless, this is not news—as many on the thread have already indicated, it was on a History Channel feature several years ago. CNN must really be going down the tubes.
That is because Herr and Frau Hitler used up most of the gasoline leaving little left for Herr and Frau Goebbels.

yes, this is true, but the next question is how CAN we know if the body parts the Soviets still have are Hitler’s? Do we have other Hitler DNA to compare them to? The jawbone can be compared with dental x-rays assuming those still exist. But if there was a double, the existing dental x-rays may have been replaced (by the Nazis, before the “getaway”) with those of the double. The same source I referred to in my previous post also claimed to have ridden a U-boat to Argentina with Martin Borman a year or two after the war was over. He claimed the U-boat was scuttled off the coast of Argentina near where he was dropped off. A scuttled U-boat has been found in this location. A skeleton was found in Berlin around 1970 and dental records were used to “confirm” it was Borman. But why couldn’t Borman have replaced his dental records with those of a selected dead body before he made HIS escape then buried the body in Berlin? Maybe there are answers to these questions, but the fact the Soviets had control of the place for so long means they will be alot harder to find.
