Palin meant no disrespect with blacked-out hat
CNN ^ | December 17th, 2009 | staff reporter

(CNN) - Sarah Palin said she meant no disrespect to the man that elevated her to the national scene after she was photographed wearing a visor on which Sen. John McCain's name had been blacked out.

The gossip Web site TMZ ran photos of the former Alaska governor vacationing in Hawaii earlier this week in which Palin is shown with a McCain campaign visor with black marker covering the ex-presidential candidate's name.

The Web site declared the hat a "frontal attack on Sen. John McCain," but Palin told Politico she was merely trying to "be incognito" while vacationing in Hawaii.

"I am so sorry if people took this silly incident the wrong way," Palin said in a statement to the Web site. "I adore John McCain, support him 100 percent and will do everything I can to support his reelection. As everyone knows, I was honored and proud to run with him. And Todd and I were with him in D.C. just a week ago. So much for trying to be incognito."

A Palin source confirmed the accuracy of the former vice presidential candidate's comments.

The four term Senator McCain is up for re-election next year.

Gee maybe she blacked it out to avoid the very people who have pointed it out. Big deal.

Oh, and no bikini shots? Darn.

The paparazzi who ruined the Palin family vacation will find Wasilla very cold this time of year, and if they try to stalk her through the woods near her home, the brown bears will feast.

100 billion a year is being extorted in Copenhagen, the ‘safe schools czar’ appointed by the White House is an out and out pervert, and the libs in the media ignore all that to bring us stories of Sarah Palin’s hat via telephoto lens.

VR - I hope they are dumb enough to try it! I pray this doesn’t cramp her style too much but I imagine she’ll become even more alert and streetwise to their lowbrow tactics. The Gov learns and adapts quick and that’s what makes her such a natural.

IMHO Palin could have acquired any headgear she wanted. Yet she chose to wear the McCain visor hat and crudely blackout his name.

This woman has demonstrated she is schrewd and tough. I think she made a deliberate statement to further distance herself from McCain without saying it. And, with almost no effort kept her name in the news.

It was her way to give McCain, his family and handlers the finger. I approve. Go get ‘em Sarah.

She is in the news. Benin publicity in an ordinary gray T shirt and old visor is good. Ordinay is the primary message.

to add to this - we all have to remember that the woman has been living out of a suitcase for the last couple of months. It’s quite possible that it was not a priority of hers to make sure she had an appropriate visor for her vacation. She made use of what she had on hand, exactly what we need in politics at the moment. (at all moments actually)

The “silly incident” was triggered by a silly act. If it was to “give McCain, his family and handlers the finger” it was also juvenile, kind of like what Obama does with his hands.

If Gov. Palin wants to distance herself from Sen. McCain, simply go in a different direction, it will become apparent.

Geez, everyone wants to “make a statement”.

“This just show she didn’t want to waste a perfectly good cap
Hmmm.... Frugality..”

She is just being frugal...

I also think she doesn't want the any variation of the word “LOSER” on her forehead.

It is too bad they stalked her on vacation but she may as well expect it. You can bet if they had rented some exclusive compound to get some privacy, it would be talked about for months in the media just like “ClothingGate”, and she would have been endlessly portrayed as an elitist. Plus she would have no power to close airspace like Bambi, so they would have been buzzing her with copters anyway.

A good move to make a little distance from a RINO.

Ya gotta love that Gal. Go Sarah!

I like the fact that she preempted Zero’s vacation to Hawaii.

Clever move.

This seems petty & juvenile from Palin. Especially after her statement praising McCain.

Did she think no one would notice? I hope she & her staff are not that stupid.

Does she have more “blacked-out” HATS? Maybe a “I love my Levis” hat that she wears? How about a Governor of Alaska hat - blacked out, of course.

Should Elin Woods now start wearing blacked-out Tiger Woods Tee-shirts? I hope she is to classy for that. What to do with all that Tiger memorabilia? Black it out, of course, & keep on using it. NOT!

I'll bet that stuff went into the trash, if not the fireplace, days ago; & that is just where SP’s hat needs to go!

I strongly support Sarah in ‘12, but this was an avoidable “controversy.”

A.) She knows the left is looking for anything to trash her.

B.) A visor goes for about 10 bucks (tops) in the hotel gift shop.

At the very least, this is a ‘teachable moment’ for her handlers.

I pray they are not that naive.

Isn’t it amazing what is “controversial” for the media when it comes to Palin? This was the only time I have ever seen the local newscast here mention Palin, and it was this story. Talk about bias. This is nothing.
