Geraldo Threatens to Quit If FOX News Hires Lou Dobbs
TV Newser ^ | Dec. 21, 2009 | Chris Ariens

Posted on 12/21/2009 11:58:45 AM PST by Beaten Valve

Over the weekend, the Daily News reported that Fox News host Geraldo Rivera has told Fox News founder and chairman Roger Ailes he'll quit if Ailes hires Lou Dobbs.

Rivera tells Rush & Molloy, "I never threatened to quit," adding, "The last time I checked, no one here was talking to the a-—." A rep for Ailes concurs, telling the paper he isn't looking to add Dobbs to either FNC or FBN.

And all this reminded us about a situation a few years ago just after Rivera signed a reported 6-year $36m contract with NBC. In August, 1998 Newsweek reported on a riff between Rivera and then NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw. Rivera complained in a TV Guide interview that promos for his CNBC show "Rivera Live" didn't air during "Nightly" because Brokaw banned them. He also seemed to be gunning for Brokaw's job, telling TV Guide he was, "in the running for the center chair at the desk of the wise men."

A day after the quotes leaked, Rivera issued this statement: "Tom Brokaw is a great newsman who does a terrific job and the rivalry between us is grossly overstated." He also explained that his ambition to be "the news anchor for the next millennium" did not extend beyond his role as a CNBC host.

Rivera left NBC after the 9/11 attacks going to work for Fox News as a war correspondent.

Geraldo’s support for illegal immigration has always seemed incongruous with the conservative viewership at FNC. Geraldo’s pro-illegal immigration stance in a jobless recovery strikes a note of callous indifference to middle Americans who must compete for jobs against cheaper, illegal laborers. Lou has been consistent in his opposition to illegal immigration and amnesty at his own peril, while Geraldo continues to champion lawbreakers and gangbangers in search of a better life.

Great news! Fox should hire Dobbs, Geraldo quits (yea!) and then Fox should fire Dobbs.

Mission Accomplished.

I’m not a big fan of Lou Dobbs, but I’d help pay his salary if it got rid of Geraldo!

Geraldo will now be the guy who runs out on stage to dance to the crazy Mexican/Polka music on the Sabato Gigante show.

And he’ll do it with grace and aplomb.

Lou Dobbs has consistently spoken out against illegal aliens, and he was one of the few in the media to objectively report on Clinton-Monica scandal.

Geraldo is a bigot - he wants only his views represented. I was disappointed when FNC did not take action after the demeaning way he spoke of Michelle Malkin and spitting in her face.

Here is an email I sent to Atlarge@foxnews.com a few weeks ago. I titled it "Thank You."

For allowing Kimberly Guilfoyle to host your show, which I think is much better when you are gone.

Ever since your MSNBC style, biased, race-card-playing coverage of me and other Americans who attended Tea Parties, it has been particularly difficult to watch you on Fox News.

Good for you. I agree.

I can’t watch that guy. His demagoguery of the illegal alien and other issues, cause me to want to destroy my big screen.

The only time you see Geraldo on Fox News is when some one dies. He's been shilling for illegals for quite some time now. Guess he views himself as a kindred spirit. Nice knowin’ ya but the door is over there.

it is not just you.

For some reason all the news channels basically shut down on the weekends now.

Heck most of them don't even have news during the week, it's mostly just non news programs with an occasional repeat of a show they did earlier in the day.

I just don't get it personally. They have the whole world to gather news from, but if you turn on the 3 main news stations right now you'd be hard pressed to find anything happening in the ENTIRE WORLD at the moment.

Everyone in the news business should be fired in my opinion.

There is enough news just in my little town to have real 24-7 coverage, they reporters just don't want to WORK! They just want to reprint AP articles and run video of press conferences.
