Can the UN legally impose a solution on Israel?

UN Charter: “To maintain international peace and security.” Edit Link

By Ted Belman

A movement is afoot to get the UN to predetermine borders between Israel and the future 23rd Arab state and to recognize “East Jerusalem” as its capital. Such predetermination would be in violation of the Roadmap which calls for a negotiated solution where “negotiated” implies freedom to say “no”. And such predetermination would prejudge the outcome which the world never tires of telling Israel, no one can do.

I began doing research on the powers of the UN and on whether such UN predetermination would be ultra-vires its Charter. In other words, would it be legal by international law for the UN to dictate a solution?. I wanted to know what the consequences might be for Israel. I have not yet gotten a good enough fix on these questions to give an opinion. Regardless of the true meaning of the Charter, I fear that the UN would give the same answer that the Queen gave to Alice in Wonderland, “It means what I say it means”. Yesterday, David Solway in The United Nations: Public Enemy Number One recommended that the US withdraw from the UN. He recites in a detailed way what is wrong with the UN and why it is the enemy of the US and freedom.

But his polemic, left out reference to the overriding purpose of the UN.

In 2001, John F McManus, the then president of the John Birch Society, gave a speech entitled The Plan to Have the UN Rule He quotes from a State Department official in 1945

"… The Charter is a war document, not a peace document.

The state of Israel was not established by UN mandate. Israel fought the British and declared ITSELF a State and was recognized as such first by the United States.
The UN, using the guidelines of the Balfour Declaration, only aquiesced to the right of Jews to return to their homeland which only gave Jews “permission” to live in a small area, controlled by the British, in a larger area known as Palestine...which never, ever existed in history.
The British refused to allow many Jews into the territory, and propagandized the Arabs to fight the Jews to keep them out.
The UN never established a state.

The UN was authorized in 1947 (I believe) and has been antisemitic from the date of its inception. Wouldn’t it be great if they could re-locate their stinking HQ to Auschwitz or another city more in keeping with their unspoken mission?

They’re gonna force Israel into a “shooting solution”.

Prayers.

Since when does the UN control any country? All of you are assuming UN control when there is none and should never be any...so either rephrase your questions or go along with world government.

The UN does not control the US and it also does not control Israel! Actually, it does not have any control over any country that does not give in to its demands... Their power is only in agreement of the many countries there and we all know that most hate Israel...so disregard. So...if you actually want to believe in the UN, just listen to the majority of their decisions...heh...(Yes, you are an idiot if you do)...

Obama could. Were he to hang them out to dry and cut off all US aid and support they’d be forced into giving up something. I’m sure the idea that he is running our foreign policy terrifies the average person from Israel.

It was in God’s providence and timing that Israel was re-born EXACTLY on schedule. If the UN did anything, it was notice the obvious way that God had already moved.

Only the Bible says what happens thousands of years before it happens. This is the signature of God, by which you know you can trust your eternal destiny to the Bible’s testimony.

The UN cannot create states, remove states, or decide borders, though it can and does have opinions (that can change with the tide). The UN can only admit states as members. Israel declared its independence and the UN accepted it into its membership.

Israel could live without US aid. I think Israel should give up US aid entirely. If that day were to ever come, then that is when the rest of the world will start to respect Israel a little more, and fear their own impotence. Right now, it acts like a puppet so it gets treated like one.

Compare Israel to Lebanon, which today announced it will defy UNSC resolution 1559 ordering Hezbullah to disarm. That won’t even make the news, I bet. Most of the countries that signed onto the 1559 project are looking for ways to trim or remove their deployments entirely. Iran defies the US and UN. Lebanon defies the US and UN.

Of course, Israel gets more cooperating, but it doesn’t need and shouldn’t accept foreign aid. Cooperate because that is better than not. But when it is against your national interest, then stand up and be counted. You only capitulate when the weight against you is a threat to national interest, e.g. Saddam’s Iraq or Serbia’s Milosivic (which didn’t capitulate, but should have). But Iran, Lebanon both correctly calculate that there is no price to pay for defiance at this moment. So they defy.

Israel is a chump. And I say that as a big supporter of Israel.
