Yes. It would appear that she learned early the social value of political opportunism.
Her attachment to the underlying values of Barry Goldwaters' political ideals do not look to have been very strong.
I do know that, at the time, a number of political conservatives had distrust of Goldwater for quite a few reasons. I was rather young then and only remember hearing the conversations at the table and seeing some articles in US News & World Reports magazine and others. I do not really remember any of the specifics about their dis-trust/dis-like or Goldwaters' policies. I do remember that his views was a reason for splits among conservatives at the time.

He was a good photographer though.
