NEW YORK (AP) - Percy Sutton, attorney to Malcolm X and a pioneering media mogul, has died in New York. He was 89.
Marissa Shorenstein, a spokeswoman for Gov. David Paterson, confirmed Sutton's death Saturday. She did not know the cause of death.
The son of a slave, Sutton became a fixture in Harlem after moving to New York City following his military service with the famed Tuskegee Airmen in World War II. His law office represented Malcolm X and the slain activist's family for decades.

This guy is the whitest black guy I have ever seen.
>Yep, some math might be in order for AP to say this ...
Yeah. In a few decades, I’ll pass for having fought in Nam.
Few decades later, I marched at Selma with Doctor King.
Age inflation.

Prayers to his family.
Actually, Mr. Sam Sutton, Percy's father, was born free in 1860. (The Wikipedia article is wrong; Percy Sutton states that his father was born free in a video located here --- in fact, he had to correct the interviewer, who also assumed Sam Sutton was born into slavery.) Sam Sutton was the last principal of San Antonio Douglas High School, which at the time was one of the few black high schools in Texas, and he was the principal of Wheatley from its inception in 1932.
Sam Sutton was hardly a young man when he was my parents' principal. They often spoke of his slight stature, he had to sit on a cushion to ease his hemorrhoids.
What an odd statement.
Percy Sutton in WWII, when he was a Tuskegee Airman.
Cab Calloway, probably about 1930.

RIP.
“Well since all the posts so far have to do with this guys age and nothing else, I guess Ill say RIP.”
Thank God you’re here to add much needed civility, and hyperbole. All does mean all, though. Maybe you should count again.
You know, Stalin is dead. Got any kind words for his murdering corpse? Or did you use them all up on this leftist piece of garbage? I’m glad you so lamely attempted to put us into our place for questioning the media or this communist and his lies. After all, even Hitler in death became a sympathetic figure. Right? Or am I ok in hating him even after death? Let me know what you decide, oh arbitrar of human emotions.
Holy crap, you idiot. I had no idea who this guy is so I was going by what the posters said in forming a quick opinion. And since at that time no one had really said anything, I had no opinion. Get a life.
