The man accused of attempting to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas Day appeared to have deliberately chosen a vulnerable seat on the plane, an expert says.
A government official told Fox News Saturday that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was sitting in seat 19A, which, according to the official, is above the plane's fuel tanks and wing and next to the skin of the aircraft.
In the event of an explosion, the official said, there is a high likelihood that it would be accelerated by the fuel tank, increasing the chance that the planes structure would be damaged and the plane would be brought down.

The NWA flight this terrorist was on was an Airbus 300.
I believe he was pointing out the location of the ‘shoe bomber’s’ location on his flight.....a 767.
Agreed. ;-)
Wrong aircraft.
He showed the location of seat 19A, where the Detroit bomber sat.
I could be wrong....but I believe that Reid sat in row 19 on his 767 flight.....
I’m sure he thought of that on his own.

I think it’s also likely that the time of the detonation (just before landing) was chosen to maximize ground casualties.
More than likely....
Either that or it took him that long to get his courage up.
Mine too, but once you've got your "identifier", many airlines allow you to switch seats, on line. American does, Continental too, IIRC.
These two planes are fairly close in both design and form, because they are about the same sized aircraft and use the same engine configuration.
I assert that Flight 800 in 1996 was detonated in virtually the same spot, but in that case the entire front of the aircraft fuselage separated and the wings separated immediately afterward.
