Senator gets new gun against death threats (Philippines)

MANILA, Philippines -- Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago said on Sunday her husband has given her a submachine gun to protect herself from those threatening to kill her.

But she said she had to go back to practice shooting because she was not familiar with the handgun given to her.

``I also have to recalibrate my brain, so I could always be psychologically ready to be attacked,'' she told dzBB on Sunday

Santiago said had received a death threat from a Cabinet member whom she did not name and who she believed could also be behind a petition to the Commission on Elections to disqualify her from seeking reelection in the May balloting.

She said she was trying to keep these issues out of her mind by going to "tiangges" (bazaars) and books stores.

``I don’t want to waste my life with things that don’t matter because I would end up being just like them,'' she said.

Santiago said she would name the Cabinet member and the "three kings of character assassination" working for the Palace official at the resumption of session next month.

The senator said that the moves taken against her by the Cabinet member was meant to stop her from speaking publicly about certain issues, which she did not specify. But she said that no one could stop her from telling the truth.

I quess the elites can get the guns they wish. I remember the Teddy Kennedy's body guard had a couple of submachine guns as well.

Why sure. The little people can’t be trusted with guns, they cling to them. But the elites... well, they don’t even have to pay taxes, why should they be denied guns?

Just what my wife was looking for under our tree last week. Pity they were out of stock at Costco.

I bet if you saw a picture of this submachine gun, it was just a common 9mm pistol of some sort..like a beretta or a CZ-75 or a Sig Sauer.
