Becoming a cop is voluntary. If you can’t handle toughs without using a Taser or gun then you need to seek employment elsewhere. There are only so many traffic and desk jobs available.

we have policemen dieing everyday

Maybe from smoking, drinking and cancer, but not in the line of duty. 2009 was the safest year for Law Enforcement officers in the last 50. Only 124 died in the line of duty and only 48 of those were firearm related. Source

Why do I suspect the number of contacts with LEO that are death related are higher, I mean for the civilian?

Probably because you are reasonably intelligent. LEO’s are better drivers and (presumably) not intoxicated. They are also permitted to wear body armor, whereas the citizenry is subject to arrest for doing the same.

"The objective facts must indicate that the suspect poses an immediate threat to the officer or a member of the public," Judge Kim Wardlaw said in the 3-0 ruling.

I can't believe that the 9th Circus Court of Appeals almost got this one right. I say "almost" because the Court should have ruled that the suspect must pose an "immediate threat of serious harm to person or property." Otherwise, LEO will continue to find an immediate threat of the most unthreatening kind as an excuse to play with their tazers.

Oh Good GRIEF! I warned my teen-aged sons that if they EVER behaved in such a way that the police had to tazer them, when I got to the scene I would ask the officer if I could borrow the tazer and use it on then again. By the way I have NEVER had to go down to the police station to collect up any of my children. We really need more cases of making pathetic excuses for bad behavior(sarc)

ah, read more, it isn’t about just the cop.

Tasers save the person being tased from physical harm.

And do you think that with this decision that there will be more Police and Suspects dieing or less??

From everything I have observed, you are going to get a significant up tick in both.

They are, but tasers keep the death rate for the civilians down too.

I think the ACLU has a number of people on the board here and the public that a taser is nothing more than a cattle prod. This is an out an out lie.

Everyone is buying the ACLU lie including the courts.

Watch a large group of people get tased for the first time as part of Marine training:

Do electrical stun guns (TASER-X26®) affect the functional integrity of implantable pacemakers and defibrillators?

http://europace.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/9/7/551

And google:
http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=taser+pacemaker&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

If Tasers affected pacemakers people would be dropping like flies and the taser would have been pulled from the market.

That’s exactly how it was with my mother. She told me if the cops ever picked me up, don’t bother calling her, she’ll ask the judge to give me the max punishment, and don’t bother trying to come home, cuz she refused to be embarrassed by raising a hooligan.

Somehow, I avoided trouble with the law quite well. May not have the usual complement of “entertaining” stories of “high school fun”, but I find that a more than fair trade.

I take MAJOR issue with your constant use of the word “CIVILIAN” when you are referring to the public.

ALL cops are NOTHING MORE than fellow citizens entrusted with the EVEN enforcement of the law. You are NOT military or sailors, you are just another citizen.

You guys had better learn to treat your fellow citizens with the deference and politeness they deserve, or there will be huge consequences. You guys are already afraid to go into many areas of major cities as it is. The kind of mindset you are evincing here shows a HUGE “us vs. them” mentality.

Do you want to get the entire populace angry enough at you to defund and shrink departments? It is not impossible.

You are a COP, not some superior being we are supposed to kowtow to like 0bama (ptui) does to various kings etc.

Regarding the taser episode I posted, the cops involved have ALL lost their badges, for showing poor judgement and using excessive force. The ruling was announced today.
