Levi-Bristol custody fight over Palin grandchild will be public
Miami Herald ^ | December 29, 2009 | Lisa Dehmer

Posted on 12/29/2009 6:12:13 AM PST by chickadee

"Johnston fought to allow the custody matter to unfold in public, saying in a sworn statement that doing so would help put everyone on best behavior. He noted that Van Flein also represents Sarah Palin.

"I know that public scrutiny will simplify this matter and act as a check against anyone's need to be overly vindictive, aggressive or malicious, not that Bristol would ever be that way, nor that I would. But her mother is powerful, politically ambitious and has a reputation for being extremely vindictive," Johnston said in his affidavit. "So, I think a public case might go a long way in reducing Sarah Palin's instinct to attack."

Johnston said he didn't want to hurt or embarrass his son -- or Bristol. He thinks Sarah Palin, not Bristol, is acting with "sheer malice," Butler wrote in a court filing.

"He feels Sarah Palin, through her lawyer, under the guise of Bristol Palin's name, would run roughshod over his very bones," Butler wrote."

If the question was, as you say, "“If your teenage daughter got pregnant...”, and Palin answered, consider adoption then I do have a problem with that.

If the either/or was abortion or adoption, then it makes sense. But the way you put it....nope, no good.

Amen.

Conservatives on this site would serve themselves well to give a good look at the stats of how well a child of a teenage single mother does in this world.

A loving family with a married mother and father does much better.

That is a quote from the book. I didn’t “put it”, Palin did.

Take a look at the stats of how well a child of a teenage unwed mother does compared to how well an adopted child does.

The question is not how well some unwanted child in some ghetto would fare but how well her own grandchild would fare. That's why I wanted you to clarify.

Sorry, no way I will accept as a positive thing that Palin would counsel one of her own daughters to give an unexpected child up for adoption.

fwiw, my wife and I have been raising a grandchild for nine years. The thought of advising our daughter to give the baby over to strangers to raise never entered the equation.

also, fwiw, your post prompted me to search the quote (palin book page 115). I found it easily. I also found the video from the debate on you tube. Palin's rendering of what happened in the debate and what the video shows are absolutely not the same. In the video she does not mention adoption at all, her answer was (to her credit) "I'd choose life". In the book she makes a point of stating that her opponents were not asked the same question but in the video they clearly were...iow...the book is less than accurate.

"More of the same. He’s not smart enough to come up with this on his own either."

BINGO!!

Something or someone else is behind this. Who is financing the little crap eater in this anyway?

Smelling a big DemocRAT here.

This is a shot over Palin’s bow. Johnston has dirt on her and is going to use it to get what he wants.

The sad fact is not matter what she does, it’s going to come out eventually. Palin should have paid this guy off long ago, make him go away. Now she has a permanent irritation, at worst a political career killer, attached to her neck.

This whole Levi situation is another reason I question Palin’s smarts. As stated, the time tested method for making a situation like this to go away is to manage it, pay him off and make him sign a confidentiality agreement. Instead, Palin criticizes the guy publically and not only makes the situation worse but creates a monster in the process.

Palin has a history of vindictiveness and a bunker mentality. Look how she fired everyone in Waslla city management/government who didnt’ vote for her after she got elected mayor (including the Sheriff, who sued. The court said Palin probably did fire him because he didn’t support her in the election but he was an at will employee and could be fired for any reason...even political).

Can anyone say “Travelgate”? How about Bill firing all the federal attorneys?

Palin is the right’s Hillary Clinton.

“In the book she makes a point of stating that her opponents were not asked the same question but in the video they clearly were...iow...the book is less than accurate.”

An autobiography designed to spin facts to one’s advantage, impale adversaries and make alot of money...not accurate?

Go figure.

I’ve never understood the Palinistas opinion that her book should be taken as truthfully and literally as the Bible. Take her book, compare it to the hit piece books out there, split it down the middle, and then one might arrive at a semblance of the truth.

But with Palin and her supporters, the truth is an obstacle, not a goal.

I was strictly talking about the Palins! There would be no good reason for Bristol to have not kept the baby. I am quite sure the idea never even entered their heads for a second!

Sure Bob, bet she’s hiding under her table as we speak. Paying people off to keep them quiet is an admission of guilt or wrong doing in advance. It never stays quiet or goes away.

Whenever there's a chance to demean FReepers who support Palin, I'll always know where to find you, Bob.

How low will you go on this thread?

As for your previous assertion that Levi has real dirt on Palin...if he did, he'd already be rich. The entire MSM would be bidding on it. Get serious.

“Paying people off to keep them quiet is an admission of guilt or wrong doing in advance.”

Could be, or it could be simply managing a bad situation that could be spun against you. In either case it’s the astute political move.

“It never stays quiet or goes away.”

Sure it does, if your contract is good.

Maybe you didn’t get the right debate.
However, the book is approved by Palin herself, so I’m sure the quote is correct.

Maybe also you have never heard of “Open Adoption”. Where a mother gives her baby to a loving couple yet continues to have a part in the child’s life. You are actually doing this.

We hope to. We are in line for “Baby Brittany” right now. I admire her mother greatly. She is tremendously unselfish, knowing that we can give her baby what she cannot. A stable family and basically three parents who adore her. I find it insulting that you are belittling her choice, when you have gone down the same route.

Any mother that gives her baby what she cannot should be given kudos for her unselfishness. Those who do not, are not the kind of people who are thinking of the best for the child.

Sad that this can’t be done in a private family court.

I quoted you exactly (used cut and paste). You said "Mother`s should keep and raise their children period!" If you meant just Bristol, you should have said so. Anyone reading this would have concluded as I did that you meant all mothers, regardless of who they are.

But I agree. Bristol did the right thing, both in keeping her beautiful baby, and in giving that guy the boot. If only she'd made better choices in the first place--but in the end, she did do the right things.

And the truth sometimes hurts. Palinistas are so intent on keeping ANY kind of criticism, correct, false or constructive, from being disussed one day it is all going to come down in one big ball and throttle you to the core.

Sober anlaysis and discussion of Palin’s strong and weak points is the reasonable way to evaluate ANY politician but Palin’s amen corner acts like a cult.

Sarah is not the messiah. She has good and bad points like any other person, but to ignore that is a prescription for failure and those that follow it will eventually get blind sided hard.

And I’m concerned about what happens then.
