The Ride of the Brown Brigadier
Listen my children and you shall hear
Of the last minute ride of the Brown Brigadier,
On the 19th of January, in twenty oh nine;
Conservatives will say, this state is mine!
Well all remember that famous day and year.
Brown said to his friend, “If the Socialists march
By land or sea from the town to-night,
Hang a lantern aloft in the belfry arch
Of the North Church tower as a signal light,—
One if by cloture, and two if we’re free;
And I on the opposite shore we’ll be,
Ready to ride and spread the alarm
Through every Middlesex village and farm,
For the country folk to be up and to arm.”
Then he said “Good-night!” and with muffled oar
Silently rowed to the Charlestown shore,
Just as the moon rose over the bay,
Where swinging wide at her moorings lay
The Obamacare Socialist man-of-war;
A phantom ship Kennedy, with each mast and spar
Across Massachusetts like a prison bar,
And in D.C. a fool, sat narcissfied
By Baruch Hussein’s own reflection, in the tide.
Meanwhile, his friend through alley and street
Wanders and watches, with eager ears,
Till in the silence around him he hears
The muster of men at the Capital door,
The sound of arms, and the tramp of feet,
And the Communists marched, trembling with fears,
Back down to their boats on the shore.
The Brown Brigadier, he climbed the tower of the Old North Church,
By the wooden stairs, with stealthy tread,
To the belfry chamber overhead,
And startled the pigeons from their perch
On the sombre rafters, that round him made
Masses and moving shapes of shade,—
By the trembling ladder, steep and tall,
To the highest window in the wall,
Where he paused to listen and look down
A moment on the roofs of the town
And the moonlight flowing over all.
Beneath, in the churchyard, lay the dead,
In their night encampment on the hill,
Wrapped in silence so deep and still
That he could hear, like a sentinel’s tread,
The watchful night-wind, as it went
Creeping along from tent to tent,
And seeming to whisper, “All is well!”
A moment only he feels the spell
Of the place and the hour, and the secret dread
Of the lonely belfry and the dead;
For suddenly all his thoughts are bent
On a shadowy something far away,
Where the river widens to meet the bay,—
A line of black that bends and floats
On the rising tide like a bridge of boats.
Meanwhile, impatient to mount and ride,
Booted and spurred, with a heavy stride
On the opposite shore walked the Brown Brigadier.
Now he patted his horse’s side,
Now he gazed at the landscape far and near,
Then, impetuous, stamped the earth,
And turned and tightened his saddle girth;
But mostly he watched with eager search
The belfry tower of the Old North Church,
As it rose above the graves on the hill,
Lonely and spectral and sombre and still.

Gee whiz, why did Cimino have to go and make that overbloated fiasco, “Heaven’s Gate” ? That killed his career. We could’ve been treated to a few more TDH-calibre films.
If elected, Brown will be more conservative than than Maine twins or Romney by far.
If he stops ObamaCare (41st vote in the Senate), hes done his job as far as Im concerned.
“Brown is conservative by Massachusetts standards.”
He is an anti health care, anti cap and trade,anti tax raising, strong defense conservative by American standards...period!
Coakley might have money and......?
Scott has the substance. Make a Rat’s head explode, vote Scott Brown on 19th.
Congrats Julie,you and others have all but nationalized the race,IMHO Brown has a shot.
Amen brother!
Here’a a TV question for you: Which police drama most accurately protrayed the era in which they were on tv: Adam-12 or The Shield?
Shout that from your rooftops. It’s so true!!!
Can’t really judge that, I only saw a handful of Adam-12 eps (Nick at Night ran the later color eps of “Dragnet” in heavy rotation in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s, so I mostly just saw those). I’ve never watched “The Shield.” I got burned out on the cop and lawyer drama shows, truth be told. I loved the ultra-stylized “Miami Vice” (and the retro “Crime Story”), but was really pissed off by the recent film, which had squat to do with the series. I don’t know what the hell Michael Mann was thinking.
If Martha is such a shoe-in wouldn’t they be flaunting it already or am I missing something?
The JFK ad (personally, I don’t like it, but if it works...) did put Ms. Fells-Acres in a tizzy, didn’t it?
Gotcha. Crime Story was good stuff!
I never saw the Miami Vice movie - not a fan of either Jaimie Fox or Colin Farrel.
Speaking of Michael Mann, did you ever see “Thief” with James Caan - good film noir. Dennis Farina’s first film role BTW.
I did not like the ad either, until Martha flipped out!
Heading to the local Scott Brown office tomorrow to work phones
I think I’ve seen it, but it has been awhile.
Fixed it for you, Ajay. Liberal RINOs don't stop Socialist agendas, they enable them. How's that Arlen Specter working out for you ?
Good for him! Incidentally, he’d be the first good-looking pol MA has sent to DC since JFK, I think.
More than just a symbolic victory - Brown’s upset would stop Obamacare in its tracks. For this reason alone, I can’t fathom why Pubbies and Indies (opposed to socialized medicine) aren’t pouring tons of support into his campaign.
I still think these guys have internal polling showing that it won’t work.
Although Rasmussen leans a bit conservative in his polling data, I’d like to see a public poll done by him over this weekend to gauge how far off Brown is at the moment.
and against Amnesty for 30 million ILLEGAL immigrants, er, I mean “undocumented workers”!
