“Most of us have the good sense to understand that the government is wrong about nearly everything.”
Well put!
In the 1918 case, the virus itself killed many.
I recommend John Barry’s “The Great Influenza” - a great history of the topic.
Here’s a link to an analysis of the potential of H1N1, written by the same author in June.

How so? Maybe someone on FR who knows about these things can chime in and explain it but unless the virus can attack an organ (flu does not do that, it just makes certain organs more susceptible) I don’t think it can kill just on its own.
“The fearmongering here on FR was amazing.”
There’s a group of gloom and doom, defeatist, sky-is-falling people here on FR. For every challenge that arises, their answer is “GIVE UP!” Or no matter what we do, the left will win. I find them disgusting.
Personally, I believe FR has been infiltrated by a small group of leftists and agent provocateurs whose sole purpose is to seed FR with doubt and defeatism. It’s a classical technique used by propagandists to demoralize the opponent.
Stand tough, netmilsmom. People like you make FR worthwhile.

Thank you my FRiend! Like US
Of course the flu is a threat, but it pales in comparison to the threat caused by government, and history proves my point.
How many died in the last hundred years from flu? Millions I’m sure, but not nearly the over 100 million who died from governmentitis.
There is good reason, backed by hundreds of years of evidence, to be leery of ‘I’m here from the government to help you’
If you agree that the government can’t protect us from those things I’ve listed, what evidence do you have that they are able to protect us from the flu?
I assert, based on evidence, that they will make things worse. AIDs, anyone?
