It is reported in today's Daily News that the chief of the National Counterterrorism Center was skiing on Christmas and stayed on the slopes for several days after the attempted bombing of Northwest Flight 253.
It must soon be reported, certainly by tomorrow's editions, that President Obama has given Michael Leiter all the free time he likes to schuss and slalom the slopes to his heart's delight.
Where Leiter belonged the moment he was notified that a terrorist had nearly executed an attack upon the United States was on his way back to Washington. Staying in touch by phone or by teleconference or by any other marvel of communication does not cut it following an act of war.
You can't phone in a high-alert scramble seeking evidence of a possible follow-on attack.
You can't phone in top-priority intelligence-gathering on how the plot was executed.
You can't phone in an emergency investigation into whether America's spy agencies - including your own - failed to connect the dots so that loopholes can be closed then and there.
You have to be there at your desk, in person and in command, 2-4/7 if necessary, even if you believe, as Leiter told a National Public Radio interviewer before Christmas, "We're not going to stop every attack. Americans have to very much understand that it is impossible to stop every terrorist event."

I don’t know about this guy, but the one who should go is Incompetano.
Natural born Americans have no worth under Pres_ _ent Obama.
I thought this guy was a hold-over from the Bush Administration. Sounds like a fall-guy to me. Get rid of him for doing the same thing Obama did? Sure, they need to get rid of someone.
Let him stay, penalty for a second screw-up is the firing squad.
Some people do learn by mistakes and arguably perform better.
Besides, we ALL know this is just a propaganda movement to divert attention from Obama himself.

He WAS a Bush appointee. He’s now an Obama appointee but either way he should be fired. Think about it. That could have been the first of several coordinated attacks at the end of the year. This shows us to be the sitting ducks we are.

Firing him is just symbolism over substance. Sure he may be a chump but Obama who also stayed on vacation will just appoint a bigger chump. I don’t even think firing him is smart politics because then it will highlight the fact that he’s being fired for doing the same thing the boss did too.
In the Navy, if a subordinate officer runs a ship aground or has a minor collision even while the captain is sleeping, the captain is fired, period.
But in the higher reaches of the fedgov, there is ZERO accountability.
This is what the end of the Ottoman Empire must have been like.
Good thing our Commander in Chief cut short his vacation and did his job.
This is exactly why he'll be the sacrificial lamb. They cast about and found the appropriate obscure holdover from the "old regime" to throw to the wolves that are demanding accountability.
Plus, it gives them the ability to say they are cleaning up another one of Bush's messes.
As for leadership and accountability from the top down - well, when you've never really led much of anything larger than a State Senate staff or a room full of dewey-eyed "community volunteers".......
Everyone in the administration is simply following Obamao’s lead.

As long as we fire his boss Obama for doing the same thing; I’ve got no problem with firing this guy.
Speaking of Barry, did the public ever find out why the 3 hour delay in notifying the POTUS of the attempted homicide bombing?
So far, we know that the president, Clinton-SOS, & this guy, Nat’l Counterterrorism Ctr chief, were all AWOL post panty bomber.
Who all else just phoned it in & kept on partying? I would really like an accounting of those who are supposed to be in charge.
His boss, Incompetano, judged that the system worked and his President remained on Hawaii, working on his putting, so why should this guy think he was needed in D.C.
