It was the thinnest of reeds, but that didn't stop George Stephanopoulos from clinging to ittwicein doing his best for Harry Reid . . .
Appearing on GMA today, Steph stressed that Reid's remarks about then-candidate Obama being "light-skinned" and having no "negro dialect" were supposed to be "private."
Stephanopoulos tried to put the best face on things during a conversation with weekend co-host Kate Snow.

But think of the quotes that were deemed “racist, “ and exploited by Obama and the media as such. Biden, when he was still (supposedly) in the hunt: Obama is “clean and articulate.” Bill Clinton, himself, “it’s all such a fantasy.” Anyone calling Obama a “socialist.” Now why in the world would you let Obama have it both ways, innocuous remarks being spun as racist, while marginally (to you) , or clearly (to many others) racist remarks get a pass?
Agreid.
Ah yes. In fact in private is when the facade is not there.
It is the real Harry Reid. and now we see him in all his “glory”.
thank for the clarification from Georgie Clintanopolis.
Cute.
296 days until we vote the *******s out.
Bingo! You win post of the day!!!
Frabaklay I don’t see anything wrong with Reids comments. I think he is just on the recieving end of noxious political corection. But, then again people like him have been dishing this crap out to the rest of us so screw him.

>>Ive had black people describe other blacks to me as light-skinned as an identification, like has freckles, not racial at all as far as Im concerned.<<
I’ve had the perception, actually, that (some) black people regard lighter skin as a status symbol. For instance I have a black co-worker who, when trying to paint a positive picture of someone she’s describing to me, will stress, “...and she’s a VERY light-skinned black lady.” As puzzling as it is to me (I mean, what do I care about the lady’s exact skin tone?) I’ve now heard enough examples of this to think it’s a fairly ingrained concept in black communities. I also gather it’s a sensitive enough topic that many blacks would bristle at hearing a white guy imply that light skin is a virtue.
One thing Reid is completely right on is the backhanded insult regarding Obama and his act (”only when he wants to”).
Let’s take a trip down memory lane...
Harry Reid was the senator who said he hated the way tourists (his constituents) smelled, didn’t he?
Harry Reid was the one who wrote a threatening letter to Rush Limbaugh’s syndicator, on senate letter head. When Rush went on the offensive & auctioned off the letter for charity, making Reid look like the bumbling, moronic thug he is, Reid actually made it worse, by trying to claim some credit for the 4 million or so dollars that Rush donated to charity Rush matched the bid. To the best of my knowledge, millionaire senator Reid didn’t give a penny.
Now this? And “Stuffing-Envelopes” tries to justify it by saying “it would have been OK if nobody found out about it!”
Groovy.
Mark
yes, I believe that's the point, Harry sees that as what makes him electable, which I suppose is a virtue to some.
Saying anything would have made it worse. There is no defence for what Reid said. It revealed what he really thinks of black people. The best thing George could have done for Harry is leave it alone and change the subject.
bump
What makes thiss comment deliciously ironic, IMO, is that it was made to Ted Kennedy, who, when he was first elected served alongside Ed Brooke, senior Republican senator from Massachusetts, who was not only good enough to get elected , back in the day Clinton refers to, but apparently good enough to sleep with one of the top reporters of the time, if Barbara walters is to be believed.
Once again its established exactly which side of the aisle is chock full of racists and it is not the right side. BTTT! ;-)
Someone else with a brain instead of a Republican party membership card.
I don't see how increasing the muzzle of political correctness by defining the "N-word" down helps anything. In fact, it makes things worse.
I commend you for not just jerking your knee like a Republican party hack. People have got to get beyond Republican-Democrat if we are to have any hope of survival.
Status for what? I don't like the commie policies of his "light" side either.
