White House Economic Adviser: Jobs Picture is 'Still Terrible' (As if we didn't know)
FOX NEWS ^ | 01/10/2010

A top White House economic adviser said Sunday "you'll get no argument from" her on the need to improve the miserable jobs picture.

Council of Economic Advisers chief Christina Romer said it's devastating that some workers have been unemployed for two years and that job losses were continuing nearly a year after passage of the so-called stimulus bill.

The jobless rate remained at 10 percent in December as 660,000 people said they had left the workforce. But Romer couched the news by saying the siphoning of jobs from the market has slowed.

"In the first quarter of 2009, when we first came in, we were losing on average 691,000 jobs per month. With these new numbers in the fourth quarter, we were losing 69,000 jobs," she said. "It's still terrible. We're still losing jobs, and we absolutely have to go from losing any jobs at all to adding them at a robust rate."

Romer wouldn't predict what the unemployment rate will be in the fall, when members of Congress face re-election, but said it is "still a very realistic estimate" that job growth could begin in the spring.

She added that she wants to work on convincing firms that are considering hiring to take the plunge.

Romer also appeared to back a House effort to pump an additional $75 billion in federal spending into the struggling economy and pointed to targeted programs like longer COBRA health insurance coverage and "cash for caulkers" -- energy saving retrofits -- as ways to expand growth.

"The sense that we need to do more is overwhelming," she said.

Ok, here is a clue Christina. Stop meddling with the market, step back and let it sort itself out.

One of my friends told me that her unemployment benefits have exhausted, but she still can't find full-time work. Right now she is a temporary employee at a local hospital. I doubt employment statistics include her (and so many others in the same or similar situation. That's what bugs me about unemployment numbers. They don't count everyone; in my opinion they are bogus.

When political hacks are forced to acknowledge the bad news everybody else already knows, it is a proof that we are in huge trouble.

The MSM will bend over backwards to try spin the numbers the closer we get to November.

The job losses were starting to escalate during the time of the campaign. He knew then that there was a problem and he went around the country from PA to OH to MI to FL and CA campaigning on fixing it. He was going to create millions of jobs. For him to now continue to blame Bush is absurd. President Bush created millions of jobs during his tenure. Even after 9/11 we rebounded. The Republicans need to come out forcefully on this.

This is the level of stupidity in Soetoro's government. They hold back all this money from the "stimulus" package until this spring, thinking that we'll magically start gaining jobs by Nov '10 in time to pull the dims fat out of the fire. What they don't know (because most have never had an honest job in their lives) is that

1) Government spending at best only creates useless government jobs , which only go to democrat party supporters and hacks. These people will vote Dummy no matter what, so you've gained no new support.

.

2) What few jobs are created take awhile to ramp up so in Nov you'll still have a huge unemployment rate..

Oregon broke records by paying $66 million (for one week) in unemployment benefits in the last week of 2009.

The reason there are no jobs is because Clinton and the two Bushs’ sent them all to China, Mexico, and India. Duh! They are not coming back. It’s all about globalization and the “new world order.”

Don’t worry. The govt is going to stimulate the economy and create lots of green jobs.

Piece of cake. Happy days are here again.

Christine Romer (aka, “I have never been with a man” Romer) is a moronic POS. Doesn't it sicken anyone that we have a friggin freak show of advisers to the Anti-Christ Obama? He has surrounded himself nothing but thieves, lesbians, transsexuals, adulterers and pedophiles to name a few. Hope and change indeed. Yes I am intolerant; of having cretins and idiots running my government
