All eyes will be on Wichita for the trial of Scott Roeder
The Kansas City Star ^ | January 9, 2010 | Judy Thomas

As the murder trial gets under way Monday for the man accused of gunning down Wichita abortion provider George Tiller, the world will be watching.

“This is a very, very high-profile trial,” said Kirk Longhofer, media coordinator for Sedgwick County District Court. “We’ve had as much, if not more, inquiry from national and even international media as any of the other big cases that have been tried here in the past 10 years.”

Remember, that includes the trial of the BTK serial killer.

Scott Roeder, 51, of Kansas City, is charged with first-degree murder in the May 31 shooting death of Tiller inside his church. Roeder also faces two counts of aggravated assault for allegedly threatening two ushers.

Jury selection begins Monday and is expected to take from two days to a week. More than 60 prospective jurors will show up in court Monday.

There are two things to remember about this case. George Tiller is not an innocent martyr and Scott Roeder is not a hero.

I can’t excuse Roeder’s actions, but I have no sympathy for the victim here. You play with fire, you get burned.

Just in time to take the spotlight off of the serial incompetence of the Obimbo administration. The media will milk this for all it's worth and even take a few jabs at conservatives.

Scott Roeder is not a hero

They made a hero out of John Brown for worse crimes in the same state and that wasn't even about killing innocents, but enslaving them.

No one in 1973 knew about Doe v. Bolton, and the mantra at the time was "only first trimester". Tiller was an out and out murderer, a man killing children in their mother's wombs - babies who in many cases could have simply survived in a NICU.

Should honest people stand by and watch this, while an impassive judicial system smirks and laughs at them while droning "stare decisis"?

The media will try to make Scott Roeder into a “typical white conservative villain.” Interesting to see how successful they are. George Tiller was NOT a nice man, hard as they have tried to portray him as such.

Tiller would have been put out of business long since for Breaking Kansas State law if he had not thrown a prosecuting attorney out of his job with lavish campaign funding to his pro-abortion opponent. And he would have been put out of business long since if he hadn’t bribed Kathleen Sebelius with massive campaign contributions.

He not only repeatedly broke the law killing late-term babies that had nothing to do with the mother’s health, but he was repeatedly complicit in covering up statutory rape. If he hadn’t bribed his way out of trouble, he’d be in jail instead of dead.

While I am personally opposed to murdering of abortion doctors I wouldn’t want to impose my beliefs on others.

Relax, with good behavior, Scott Roeder, 51, of Kansas City will out on streets again just before his 150th birthday.

While I wouldn't do what he did, he has a very good argument for voluntary manslaughter. If his defense can establish that Tiller was committing crimes by participating in partial birth abortions, his case becomes even stronger. It makes no difference that Tiller was acquitted when he was prosecuted for a misdemeaner; especially since he performed what were likely other illegal abortions after he was found innocent.

Give him a fair trial on first-degree murder, convict him, and hang him. End of problem.
