Dems Coddle Sen. Harry Reid After “Negro” Comment
Flopping Aces ^ | 01-10-10 | Mike's America

Contrast their embrace of Reid with the GOP effort led by President Bush to dump then Majority Leader Trent Lott!

I've often said that when it comes to scandals, the GOP likes to clean up the mess as quickly as possible (sometimes a bit too quickly). When it comes to Democrats, they like to leave the garbage in the living room and let it stink.

We're seeing another example of that with the Harry Reid scandal where the Senate Majority Leader spoke of then candidate Obama as appealing because he was "light skinned" and spoke "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

Harry Reid did a quick round of phone calls apologizing to every African-American leader in sight, including President Obama who "accepted Harry’s apology without question."

As a warning that there is perhaps more to Reid's comment than a slip of the tongue we have the Senator's own words from 2002 after Lott was forced to resign:

Asked if the episode would serve as a warning to weigh his own words carefully, Reid said: "You play how you practice...If you tell ethnic jokes in the backroom, it's that much easier to say ethnic things publicly. I've always practiced how I play."
Contrast Reid's quickee apologies with the apology tour that Trent Lott undertook when he made a casual remark praising Strom Thurmond on the occasion of his 100th birthday. Lott apologized over and over and over and yet the perpetually offended grievance mongers in the Democrat Party refused to accept his apology. You would have thought Lott wanted to bring back the Jim Crow era of segregation which he clearly did not.

Lott was eventually driven from office by Senate Republicans with a big push from the White House. White House spokesman Ari Fleischer called Lott's remarks "offensive and repugnant." President Bush called Lott's comments "offensive" and "wrong."

The writer makes a big mistake:

He states Demorats like to let the scandal sit in the living room and stink!

The writer overlooks that like Garbage Men, that Smell is Perfume in the Nostrils of Demorats!! They laugh at the Republicans for pursuing this disgusting notion called Morals and Ethics!

Birds of a feather. They all think alike.

And by the way, there is nothing ‘light skinned’ about Obamao.

Again, we're letting the democrats set the agenda...

Don't worry about what they interpret this as, only what we actually heard...using the left's own standards, Harry Reid is a racist.

Refer to him as that; his title is no longer "senator", it's "Racist Harry Reid".

Let's reinterpret what he said; "Obama as appealing because he was "light skinned" and spoke "with no Negro dialect,"

OK, so Reid must mean that any "negro" who is not light-skinned and does speak with a "negro" dialect would be totally unappealing and unacceptable to be President.

Maybe it's just me, but that does sound a little racist when you turn it around.

He was "sorry for a poor choice of words"...would someone please tell me the correct choice of words for what he said...anybody....jump right in there....see...

It IS what it IS...Racist Reid has spoken.

Democrats, they like to leave the garbage in the living room and let it stink.

I'd go just a bit slightly furthur here. This applies to EVERYTHING they do, pun intended.

I refer to the mentality of the Bumpus's dogs in Christmas story. They would have no problem taking stinky dumps on the middle of the Parker's living room, and then running away thru the screen door. The Parker's get left holding the bag and having to clean up the mess, holding their noses all the while.

It seems that every big program that the 'rats pass goes eventually bankrupt and epitomizes failure. From the post office, to SS, Medicare, war on poverty, war on healthcare, war on private property, war on the constitution, ad infitem.

I think it should be tied to the Clinton comment about Obama getting him coffee and the Biden comment about Obama being a black man who speaks well.

We aren’t going to drive Reid out nor do we really want to because of the coming election. Better to tie things together to create a common thread and remind people of it again and again.

There was some Dem apologist on fox news saying that it's true a Republican would be tarred and feathered for making the same comment, but it was OK for Reid because he has a good voting record on minority issues. I guess it's the Senator Byrd defense...

It's really quite simple.

The media can make a mountain out of a molehill (Lott, George Allen, etc) or a molehill out of a mountain (Reid, Clinton/Lewinsky). They can create pressure or not. Here they are choosing "not".

Reid explained this morning that he would have apologized to Rev. Jesse Jackson, except “I can’t understand his dialect.”

Trent Lott didn't say one word about race or skin color or any person or group of persons. It was entirely guilt by association fabricated by the mind readers of the left. For that Sen. 0bama said that the GOP should run him out.

Now 0bama has no problem with suggestions that only a light-skinned black who doesn't speak in ebonics is acceptable to Americans. 0bama doesn't seem to relate very well to American blacks.
