From The New York Daily News
Bill Clinton helped sink his wifes chances for an endorsement from Ted Kennedy by belittling Barack Obama as nothing but a race-based candidate.
A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee, the former president told the liberal lion from Massachusetts, according to the gossipy new campaign book, Game Change.
The book says Kennedy was deeply offended and recounted the conversation to friends with fury.
After Kennedy sided with Obama, Clinton reportedly griped, the only reason you are endorsing him is because hes black. Lets just be clear.
This is the first comment by Bill Clinton that is absolutely true. I don’t see what everyone is all “wee-weed” up about. I’m sure at least 60% of the country knew this was true as well.
A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee, the former president told the liberal lion from Massachusetts, according to the gossipy new campaign book, Game Change.
But if you do believe it happened, do you also have to believe this?
The book says Kennedy was deeply offended and recounted the conversation to friends with fury.
Everyone knew this, even the people that voted for Barry. They wanted someone that was complete opposite of Bush, this is not earth shattering news to Democrats or Republicans.
Oh come on. A few years ago? That is the kind of hyperbolic stupidism Clinton might say, but it is more reflective of his arrogance and self entitlement.
I think it would be more accurate to say a few years ago Clinton would be working down at the used car dealership right across from the interstate.
You can say that again. This is gonna stick with that haystick for a long time, maybe forever.
“You can say that again. This is gonna stick with that haystick for a long time, maybe forever.”
No kidding, and it will spill over on to Hillary’s pants suits too if she ever decides to run again.
...yet, Dead Kennedy rolled over on Bubba and told someone else about the phone call.
I don’t think it’s BS. It sounds as though it was well-sourced- Kennedy mentioned it to more than one person and Clinton hasn’t come out and denied it either.
Meanwhile- Clinton was being honest about what was happening.
i dont think Clinton meant the coffee comment in a racial angle. I think he meant it more as “he just showed up and now all of a sudden you’re gonna get behind him. We’ve been here for years. I won the WH twice for you guys. I took on the GOP and threw them back at every turn. I literally saved the party in 1992. And after all I me and Hillary have done, you abandon us for some johnny come lately”
he’d be getting us coffee as in thats what the new huy usually does for a while. he learns under the old guard. like how in the Supreme Court the newest Justice always opens the door and does these menial tasks.
The Kennedy clan was an embittered bunch of Irish Catholics. They equated their "struggles" in this area to those of the black population and anything they could do to bring the WASP American population to their knees suited them to a T. He would have backed the jolly green giant if it annoyed conservatives. Even backing an incompetent, ineligible, narcissistic black man wasn't too far for him to go. The more liberal and divisive the candidate, the more Kennedy got to stick it to America.
Americans had judged Ted Kennedy's character unfit to be president way back at Chappaquiddick and he never got over that. Kennedy's hatred for the conservative view made him the sour, vindictive man he was for the rest of his life.
"Say, Barak, did you hear the one about Bill Clinton jogging and the street corner hooker?"
If a Republican had said what Clinton or Reid did it would be taken as unambiguously racist by the media.
But because Democrats said these things the media interpret away what they'd otherwise be offended by.
The Republican Congressman who used the word "boy" in referring to Obama may not have meant anything racial by it, but nobody gave him the benefit of the doubt, and his remarks were taken by some as representative of all Republicans, but Democrats don't have to worry about that when they make similar comments.
the irony is that Teddy would have had his own Kennedy if JFK Jr hadn’t died. If Jr lived he’d have run for the Senate in 2000 and own easily. No Hillary in NY. No one would have cared about Obama being the next Kennedy because the actual next Kennedy would already have been in the Senate. JFK Jr could well be the President today. Maybe Hillary would have gone to IL and run there wouldn’t have even been a spot for Obama.
It’s a fascinating what-if to picture how the last decade would have gone if that plane hadn’t crashed.
