As we know, a particular kind of faith was immensely important at the founding of America, because it acknowledged the Source of all human rights, liberty, and valid law, and led to a structuring of a Constitution for self-government in a free society.
Richard Frothingham, in his 640-page, 1881 history, "The Rise of the Republic of the United States," stated that it was "the Christian idea of man" out of which the Republic grew. Other ideas about life, liberty, law, and government arise from different ideas, and have not been proven to lead to the degree of liberty for citizens which the ideas of America's Founders provided. "The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them." - Thomas Jefferson
