Cincinnati NAACP leaders want more work for blacks on public school projects (Or Else)

CINCINNATI (AP) — Some Cincinnati civil rights leaders are demanding more work for blacks on public school construction projects.

Members of the NAACP and a Baptist ministers group warned at a school board meeting Monday night that they would oppose future tax levies if minority contracting figures aren't improved.

School officials say nearly 12 percent of the $704 million spent so far on a sweeping school-rebuilding effort has gone to minority-owned companies. But National Association for the Advancement of Colored People local president Christopher Smitherman and others contend the district is overstating things.

While disagreeing with the NAACP estimates, school leaders agreed to make a good faith effort to do better on black participation.

I think Obama has set back race relations in this country by at least 60 years. He is a walking example of “no problem if you have no qualifications or experience for the job...”

Agreed and what makes it worse is that many whites got over their white-guilt when they voted for Obama. It is now a level playing field and I say play ball, i.e. end affirmative action and other related programs.

Spot on. I’ve been denied work in Detroit many times since my company is a bunch of white guys from the burbs. The one large landscape architecture/architecture firm in the City has a black partner. They get 99% of all the work. He will be retiring soon so I have no idea who the hell is going to do the work.
