Democrat Martha Coakley dodged a pointed question Tuesday about her claim during a Massachusetts Senate debate the night before that terrorists are no longer in Afghanistan.
During Monday's debate with Republican Scott Brown, Coakley questioned why the United States still has troops in Afghanistan. She claimed that the al Qaeda terrorists who were originally targeted by American military action have migrated elsewhere, rendering the mission moot. "They're gone," she said. "They're not there anymore. They're in, apparently Yemen, they're in Pakistan."
A reporter asked Coakley about that claim after a Capitol Hill fundraiser on Tuesday. "Do you stand by that remark?" he asked.
Coakely, standing before a small cluster of reporters and cameras, listened to the question, then quickly looked in a different direction.
"I'm sorry," she said. "Did anybody else have a question?"
The Democrat responded to another reporter who asked why she made the last-minute fundraising trip to Washington.
Coakley said she was in the middle of "a very intense campaign."
"We are facing a candidate from Massachusetts who is being supportive by extreme right groups including many Republican groups who are pouring money into Massachusetts attacking my record and distorting my record," Coakley said. "I'm doing everything that I need to be competitive in this race."

Martha’s very adept at pretending she doesn’t hear or see things. There were a lot of democrat legislators, stuffing cash up their bras, deleting confidential emails and generally ripping us off, and Martha didn’t see or hear anything. It took the feds coming in to catch these crooks.
She’s too busy sending threatening letters to old ladies in nursing homes and prosecuting fathers protecting their kids from pedophiles.
It says something about her preparedness that 24 hours had passed since the debate and she didn’t anticipate being asked about this. Kind of the same way she runs the A.G.’s office!
She’s sounding rattled and halfway incoherent, kinda like Pelosi sounds on her better days. That’s a good sign!

Radical homosexual groups donated nearly a million dollars to the recent campaign for the new lesbian Democrat mayor of Houston. And she is just a LOCAL politician. Her runoff opponent was a black community organizing Democrat.
If campaign finance is going to let out of state groups give that sort of money to a MAYOR'S race, the people of America DAMN WELL have a right to contribute to the deciding vote in the US Senate on Obamacare.
That's about the 10th time I have heard her repeat those same exact words. It's like talking to a pre-programmed computer. She has been well coached to parrot out the same nonsense about “extreme right groups” repeatedly.
“I'm doing everything that I need to be competitive in this race.”
That does include swearing that there are no terrorists in Afghanistan. The abject ignorance of this woman is frightening. And these left wing loons call Sarah Plain "uniformed? T least Sarah Plain knows Afghanistan is full of rabid Al Quaeda terrorists. She sent a letter to 0bozo demanding that 0bozo send m,re troops to Afghanistan to take the terrorist scum out.
The surprising thing here is that Brown never pounced on Coakley for this huge blunder during the debate. This was the biggest opportunity to go in for the kill in the entire debate, and he missed it.
Well, look at the bright side—at least there’s ONE Masshole politician who isn’t bringing up their Vietnam service every 2 seconds.

Certainly the truth is being told about Coakley just as the Swiftboat vets told the truth about Kerry.
Is she intentionally throwing the race? First, she goes on vacation during a short election runup. Then, she’s caught fundraising with lobbyists in Washington. No Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.
There was a theory put forward the Dems want Brown to win so this health-care bill will fail and they can blame the Republicans during the fall campaigns. Then push the health-care bill through in the next Congress.
I agree the Gergan bitch slap capped the night.
Only thing is, that was against Gergan, not Coakley, and Gergan is not running for anything. The Afghanistan thing would have been a direct and effective hit against Coakley.
Again the problem for that Dim strategy is that the bill is so disliked by the public. Thus if the bill is going to fail, all the Dims throwing themselves under the bus for this bill, Ben Nelson, Lincoln, Landrieu, maybe Bill Nelson, etc will bail on the bill and it will fail by too large a margin to blame it on the GOP. If you are not going to get the second LA purchase or the Cornhusker bribe, then why get caught voting for a bill the public wants you to vote against?
