Time for Larry Sanders to get the gig.

Jay who? He means as much to me as Clinton’s navel fuzz. If Hillary lets him have his own belly button that is.. ;)

Maybe Leno should revive the Bob Hope model.

Leno can do four or five seasonal hour-long variety shows, feature college football stars, do political stand-up, have a few sketch bits, or do a Jaywalking.

Also have a singer or two as a guest star.

He can bring back the Jay Leno Christmas Special and let the current crop of pop singers do Christmas songs as staged pieces like Hope used to do, like singing on a sleigh wearing Christmas clothes with snow falling from above with a Christmas scene behind them.

Craig is on at 11:35 here. Kind of late, but if I’m still awake I catch his monologue. I really miss Johnny Carson. He will always be the best. He was a class act.

Ha! You’re hilarious and you might be right. Those obscure references come at you like shotgun fire. Where does he find them all?

But he’s a good interviewer. Asks interesting, unlikely questions and actually listens to the answers (unlike the blubbering Leno.)

They didn’t have to name Conan as his replacement 5 years before he planned to retire, they could have made a tentative plan but no announcement. And they didn’t have to keep Jay when he decided not to retire, they could have let him walk. They played their hand stupidly and now might lose both.

I like Dennis Miller, but he's not for everyone.

Agreed. Does anyone remember Miller's old HBO show or his old syndicated talk show? Monologues more quirky than funny - at worst, just tiresome sarcasm. Despite some interesting interviews, he's not light enough or funny enough to succeed on a major network talk show.

Jay’s “early” show was announced in December of 2008, it was going to happen no matter what Conan’s ratings were.

Yes, it was, but NBC’s numbers started dropping as soon as Leno announced his impending retirement from the Tonight Show in *2004*. They knew Conan was going to suck, so they waved money at Jay to come back instead of just retiring.

Then, Jay decided he did not want to retire, so they gave him that prime time slot. All Jay’s fault in my mind.

Not really the way it went down, but whatever.

Jay Walking

'In 2009, I'll be 59 years-old and will have had this dream job for 17 years,'' Leno said in a statement. ''When I signed my new contract, I felt that the timing was right to plan for my successor, and there is no one more qualified than Conan. Plus, I promised [my wife] Mavis I would take her out for dinner before I turned 60.''

Where Is Leno Going? To Prime Time, on NBC

Five years ago NBC announced that it would hand the job of host of that franchise show to Conan O’Brien in May 2009. Since then the network has maneuvered to try to keep Mr. Leno, who continues to be the late-night ratings leader, fearing that he could leave and start a new late-night show on a competitor’s network. “The Tonight Show” is seen at 11:35 weeknights.

That’s been my opinion. He was liked by the youngsters who then found Jon Stewart.

Conan would be a good sidekick for Leno.

That’s about what he could do.

I’d love to see Dennis Miller on the Tonight show — might actually get me watching a talk show again.

Right..and maybe these late night slots can be filled with good movies. I am so tired of watching people talk about nothing.

Nothing I can find shows his ratings sinking in the last few years. If anything they appear a bit stronger, which provides a much smarter explanation for why NBC was working so hard to find a way to keep him. You don’t wave money at a guy whose ratings are tanking.

Let’s see. We have two guys both making between $10-40 MILLION bucks from their employer and the average Joe is suposed to feel sorry for them because their employer wants to set the terms for when and how they work?

Give me a break.

I hope they BOTH leave NBC. The execs there are not suited to run any business.
