The U.S. Department of Justice filed suit Wednesday against a Lower Moreland swim club accused of ousting black and Hispanic day campers this summer because of their race.
The children of the Northeast Philadelphia-based Creative Steps day camp were denied rights protected under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when, after one visit, they were refunded the rest of their summer-long pool fees and asked not to return, the filing said. The club created a new policy against admitting any more day camps in response to racially-motivated opposition from Valley Club members to Creative Steps.
The lawsuit seeks to bar the club from doing anything similar in the future, said Department of Justice spokesman Alejandro Miyar. The filing asks that the clubs discriminatory policies and practices be declared a violation of Title II of the Civil Rights Act and that the club and its associates be kept from denying those rights in the future.

Yes, indeed.
Black people swimming is more important than white people voting. So saith the Obama.
That about sums it up in it's entirety.
No, that's still private. Don't let liberals redefine the real meaning of words so they can control the debate.
[Even repugnant, immoral people have Constitutional rights.]
Granted, but they have been severely limited by the Civil Rights Laws!
I don’t think the kids trashed the pool. A big group of kids, who are new to the pool and don’t know the rules and norms, are gonna be disruptive. They’re kids. At a pool. Ever lifeguard?
The swimclub management really fouled this one up. That they failed to assess and appreciate the impact of the daycampers is incomprehensible to me. But I guess they needed money.
FU and your Panthers Holder!
Dude. You have a pool in your backyard. If you want it to remain private, don’t rent it out.
In reality, the law is null and void if it contradicts the Constitution without having gone through the amendment process. Doesn’t mean you won’t get in trouble if you break them, though.
Is a Panther Holder like a Cougar Closet?
We’re agreed then. LOL!
Refer to my #39, and like I said in #45, don't fall for the new, improved, liberal-approved definitions of words like "private". And like I said, I don't morally approve of sorting your customers by race. If all that doesn't clear it up for you, you need more help than I can offer.
[The government complaint alleges that race was discussed in the meeting that led to the “dismissal.”]
Here is my problem with this allegation. I have no proof that the following conversation occurred on the day of this incident.
Pool manager calls club management, “We need more life guards.”
Club Management, “Why?”
Pool Manager: “Because more black kids showed up than what we were originally told. I am concerned that we cannot provide them adequate safety.”
Club Management, “How many black kids are there?”
Pool Manager, “I don’t know - more than 50.”
Club Management, “Ok, we need to ask them to leave and I will contact the camp management and let them know that we will return their money.”
Again, I do not know that this conversation occurred, but with THIS Justice Department, that would suffice for discrimination charges - IMO!
I too have no dog in this hunt - just truth and justice.
Free Republic is open to the public and takes cash. If that's the test soon the socialists will bankrupt this site for political discrimination.
I’ll rent my pool out to whomever I choose.
And why does the Justice de[pt. get involved at a local level like this???
The club is bankrupt, the land for sale at $1.5million, and the Justice Department is composed of nothing but lawyers. Do your really need to ask the question? Cha ching - mac daddy wants to buy some bling.
Let me know how that works out for you. And don’t forget to carry a lot of liability insurance. You won’t be able to claim your pool is “private” when you’re sued.
Agreed. And I would guess that most people would join a private swim club just for that reason - privacy, a lesser number of people than at a public venue, and resulting quietness. And most likely, to have only those kids visit who are under adult supervision.
If I paid big $ to join a club and have that very club open up to large groups of people, I’d be p*ssed and would ask for my money back. What’s the advantage to the members if the “private” club is going to open it up to large, and more likely louder groups anyway?
