Haita is a 'Hell Hole' in the best of times and I am thinking we ain't seen nothing yet.
Quark : Let me tell you somethingabout humans, nephew. They're a wonderful, friendly people as long astheir bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take awaytheir creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, puttheir lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those samefriendly, intelligent, wonderful people become as nasty and as violent as the most blood thirsty Klingon.

Haita is a 'Hell Hole' in the best of times and I am thinking we ain't seen nothing yet.And yet they had the intelligence to allow U.S. govt. help faster than the Louisiana Democrats in the aftermath of Katrina.

The hotel should be evacuated of reporters and used to house the earthquake victims.
The media is disgusting for using resources at this time.

Chances are more people will die after the quake than during it. Give a few days for disease, dehydration, and infected injuries to take their toll.

Hussein is using Haiti to first of all “change the subject” from all the problems and thuggery surrounding his fascist dictatorship in-the-making and to appear compassionate, warm and fuzzy. So why should it be surprising to see CNN, MSNBC and even FOX turning the Haiti story into another Jerry’s Kids! It’s become a 24/7 “here’s how to donate” telethon. Of course no one has mentioned the fact that Haiti is a global armpit due to the rule of criminals and dictators, not because the “evil, imperialist” US has been unkind and selfish!!

These are surely dark times in Haiti. But if the past is any quide, it is possible for them to recover if they have the will to do it. On All Saint's day in 1755, Lisbon was rocked by a magnitude 9 earthquake which demolished most of the city; the tsunamis and fires took care of the rest. The King's powerful minister, the Marquis de Pombal, said "What now? We bury the dead and feed the living." And then he rolled up his sleeves and set about coordinating the efforts to do just that. Within a year, a shining new Lisbon rose, grander than before, a testament to what the will of men may accomplish in the face of even the worst devestation.
I pray that the living may be fed and the survivors permitted to rebuild their lives and their homes and their nation and create a new, better Haiti without corrupt officials stealing their hope for a better future.

This just maybe too big in scope a disaster. There is no local source of water and electricity. Looks like there may not be for weeks. Every organization that comes in has to be self-sufficient. What happens when the thirst and hunger of those who number in the millions becomes too great and the only people eating well are behind razor wire?

This thing is so big, so deadly and so hopeless it almost requires that all the living be evacuated and the entire area carpet bombed flat so they can start over from scratch.

Whoraldo Rivera won’t go until they can unload a 35’ airconditioned luxury tour bus, like the one he covered Katrina from.
I think Whoraldo is a sailor, he’ll probably have a charter captain bring a 60’ Swan sailboat to Port-aux-Prince.
That will be the new trend among reporters, most likely. It’s an easy thing to arrange a luxury charter sailboat in the Caribbean.
Whoraldo is probably going to be the first.
But the media will NEVER show the luxury charter yachts of the reporters.

What happened in Haiti is a real life SHTF scenario that folks here need to observe closely to see how people react and what they are capable of doing as desperation increases and resources shrivel up and become nonexistent.
I hope I am wrong, but what one will observe in this real life SHTF scenario, may not be a whole lot different in some large metropolitan areas, should an event of similar magnitude hit America as far as human behavior is concerned.
