Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) says conservatives are fabricating stories about his intention to implement "universal voter registration."
The Massachusetts Democrat is pushing back against rumors that he will introduce legislation requiring anyone whose name appears in a government databases--including felons and illegal aliens--to register to vote.
Frank's office cited a speech by the Wall Street Journal's John Fund as the origin of the rumor. The rumor has since been repeated by conservative radio hosts and blogs. Here's an excerpt from Fund's speech:
"In January, Chuck Schumer and Barney Frank will propose universal voter registration.
What is universal voter registration? It means all of the state laws on elections will be overridden by a federal mandate. The feds will tell the states, “Take everyone on every list of welfare recipients you have, take everyone on every list of unemployed you have, take everyone on every list of property owners, take everyone on every list of driver’s license holders, and register them to vote regardless of whether they want to be."
Frank says that is 100% false.
"This is how the right-wing echo chamber works,” Frank said in a statement. "They begin with an absolute falsehood--John Fund’s claim that I plan to introduce universal voter legislation, a claim for which there is no basis whatsoever. It is not a misinterpretation, it is not a quote out of context, it is not a misunderstanding – it is a lie. Period."
Frank continued: "Right-wing television reports it. Right-wing talk radio repeats it. The Washington Times writes about it. They say it so often and with such certainty that people begin believe it even when it is a complete lie. These are their tactics.”

That wouldn’t be punishment for Frank, hell it would be like summer camp. He will be everyone’s new best girlfriend. Maybe we ought to send him to Gitmo to be with people who don’t support his perversions.... nah that might not work because he’s a pig.
Such a system would be far from perfect. It would generate have lots of duplicates and variations on an individual. This is because someone might not appear in different databases exactly the same way. Resolving these ambiguities would be very difficult, if not impossible. And the more databases you span, the bigger the problem. As a result, it would allow unscrupulous people to vote multiple times.
Which, of course, is exactly the point.
Correct, it would be a nightmare and would beg for more voter fraud but there are many Dems that would welcome it.
What citation is there to show that Rep. Frank had, in fact, considered this?

No matter what they claim, the rule changes will make it possible for illegal aliens to register to vote and for others to register multiple times."
If Bawney says it’s a lie, I’d bet that it’s true.

Very interesting indeed. John Fund is well connected in DC as well as a professional journalist and author. It is highly unlikely he would publish articles on “falsehoods”. To conservatives...keep this up! This is the way to go. Be pro-active in getting the word out on their strategies and then let heads roll.
As for voting, it is long past time that veterans should march in each state to promote fair voting rights for all LEGAL and LIVING voters. An article I read stated that 100 countries have voter ID requirements. It is ridiculous that the US is not included on this list.
There is only one reason not to require photo id’s to vote and that is to facilitate vote fraud. If someone can think of another I would love to hear it. I also think indelible ink on the finger would be a great idea. Can you imagine the squawking you’d hear from the left if that were proposed?
Agreed...I find it hard to believe Fund would lie or even stretch the truth, it wouldn’t surprise me to hear more from him on this.
I read a piece a few days ago also on voter ID about other countries requiring it while we don’t, we have to change this.

Yes, it sounds like a trial balloon. Fund got wind of it early, so they switched stories.
