As SEIU Bulks Up In MA, GOP Pays Attention (Union Sends 100s of 'Volunteers' & $$$$ for Coakley)
Hotline On Call - National Journal ^ | Thursday, January 14, 2010 | Reid Wilson

Posted on 01/14/2010 4:11:08 PM PST by kristinn

SEIU has stepped up its involvement in MA in the waning days of the race, sending hundreds of volunteers and hundreds of thousands of dollars to the state on behalf of AG Martha Coakley (D).

The union, one of the most powerful arrows in the Dem quiver, is spending $685K on TV ads touting Coakley and slamming state Sen. Scott Brown (R), and a spokesperson for SEIU says it will have 300 volunteers on the ground on Tuesday.

The heightened activity has some GOPers on edge, and at least one group is worried SEIU could be taking over for ACORN as a top organizational tool benefiting Dem candidates.

"This whole thing is turnout, and this looks like the place the SEIU-ACORN folks turn on the turnout machine. They did it in Minnesota, successfully," said David Norcross, chair of the Republican National Lawyers Association.

The RNLA will send its own volunteers to MA for Election Day, with plans to monitor polling places to prevent any fraud. The group got a tip that SEIU-sponsored buses would be taking voters to the polls, Norcross said.

"Here's more proof the Republican attack machine has no answers on the issues Massachusetts voters care about -- jobs, healthcare and fixing the mess left by the previous administration," shot back Jon Youngdahl, SEIU's national political director. "Their biggest concern? That people who work hard for a living might turn out and vote."

My Mom is in an assisted living facility here in MA. She told me that people came in yesterday urging the residents to fill out absentee ballots. She told them that she would be going to the polling place on Tuesday. There are many people on the Alzheimers unit who have no clue and I wonder if someone is filling out those ballots for them.

Here in the Boston TV market, they are running back to back to back (3 in a row) negative ads against Brown at every commerical break on every channel.

I’ve never seen anything like it.

Their internals must be real bad.

SEIU says it will have 300 volunteers....”

Somehow I find it very difficult to believe that SEIU members are simply taking a day off from work to “volunteer”...as in, without any pay. I just don’t buy it.

The democrats did that to my friend’s mom, in Worcester in 1996. She was in a nursing facility. They prey on the elderly and sick. It gives one a good look at their souls. They are odious, evil people whose end always justifies their means.

The SEIU/ACORN types should be arrested for TREASON. They are openly attacking a Constitutional process to sway the outcome to favor those who are enemies to the Constitution. I would say that constitutes TREASON.

I not as worried about Al Queda terrorist as I am these domestic terrorist usurping the American voting process...it's much more dangerous than bombs.

Good grief - I've not heard of anything like it. Sounds like total red-alert panic mode is in full swing over there.

I am not trying to be smart or confrontational, but are you serious?

Are we talking the Biker-Vet's that protect the Funerals of Precious National Treasure that have fallen?

I have never met these bikers, but IMHO nobody on the planet in their right mind would mess with them.

Steele FINALLY getting off his ass.

Makes no difference. He is a loser and the RNC are losers because they tolerate him.

Maybe Brown should be doing an add suggesting that the people of MA should be insulted by the dems thinking that the peoples vote can be bought.

Is Brown running some good ads? He collected that $1.3 million this week so he should also have a strong presence on the airwaves.

The word is that many union people paid to hold signs for Coakley in MA will vote for Scott Brown. Even at least one SEIU-affiliated union has endorsed Brown!! Perhaps they all should find another union to affiliate with, because SEIU (along with ACORN) is on the “domestic terrorism” destruction list!!!!

If the SEIU thugs show up at your polling place, just ignore them and go right in and vote for Brown. Pray hard between now and then that our gracious Lord will defeat DeathCare and all the other evil proposals of the administration in Washington, and bless Scott Brown and all who vote for him.

Please find out if they are Acorn of SEIU folk. Get the names of the alzheimers residents who were visited by outsiders and report them as mentally compromised voters or whatever MA labels them. And btw I hope your mom is doing well. That must be really hard on you.

Tempting but no.. best time I had was at Gathering of Eagles in 2007 when we had a couple thousand bikes in DC (mostly Vets) along with probably close to 15k more Vets and true Patriots going up against the Anti-war crowd. The anti-war crowd was surrounded, humbled, defeated and scared.

Wanna see 300,000 +bikes & Vets, go to Rolling Thunder in DC every Memorial Weekend.. awesome sight.

Re your #27 -

That would be the “Patriot Guard” Riders who routinely escort funeral processions and get between the bogus “Westborough Baptist” maggots and the bereaved Family of American KIA at their funerals.

They also frequently escort troops returning from deployment from the airport to where they will be reunited with their loved ones.

The American Legion also sponsors the “Legion Riders” who perform a lot of charitable and patriotic functions, and I believe that some other Veteran’s organizations have a MC contingent as well.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them could help to counter any ACORN / Union thugishness or election fraud here and there if asked to.

Ok how do we hook them up with Scott’s campaign? Albeit, it is a bit cold and slippery to be riding in MA on the 19th!!!

In my daily routine I run into a lot of BO voters.

I saw an unusually large amount of people wearing purple today.

What do you suppose that signifies, here in sunny CA?
