Massachusetts - Epicenter of the Second American Revolution? (Scott Brown)
Self

Posted on 01/16/2010 12:37:10 PM PST by SamAdams76

Note to Moderator: Normally I would post a vanity like this in General/Chat but I feel that due to the importance of Tuesday's election in Massachusetts to the conservative movement, it should be posted in News/Activism. If it is decided that it should be moved to General/Chat however, I will not be offended...

This Tuesday, Massachusetts is having a special election to decide who will fill the senate seat previously held by Ted Kennedy for the past 48 years. To the utter shock of pretty much the entire nation, Republican Scott Brown is poised to win this election. If Brown is able to pull this off, it will arguably be the greatest political upset in the history of American politics.

Now if that previous sentence sounds a bit melodramatic, allow me to elaborate. There is much more at stake with this election than just a senate seat. A Scott Brown victory will effectively end the Obama Administration's plans to impose socialized medicine on America and will likely deal a death blow to the Cap and Trade bill (aka "The Global Warming" bill) - which is basically another big government plan to impose yet more onerous taxes on the American people while establishing yet more control over the US economy. Perhaps more importantly, a victory by Scott Brown on Tuesday night will likely set in motion a chain of events that will result in the GOP regaining control over both Houses of Congress this coming November. After all, if an obscure state senator like Scott Brown can capture a senate seat in what is arguably the most liberal state in America, and even more, a seat previously held for nearly half a century by a liberal icon like Ted Kennedy, then one can only imagine what could happen nationwide in November.

Thus, a Scott Brown victory on Tuesday night will have an incalculable effect on the future course of American history. Like the first shot in the American Revolution over a Lexington, MA green on April 19, 1775, we make look back to this coming Tuesday as the opening shot in the second American Revolution.

I do not exaggerate. The stakes really are this high. American is once again at a crossroads in history and Massachusetts once again is the focal point. Should Scott Brown be decisively defeated Tuesday night, Obamacare marches triumphantly on and America will likely march past the point of no return on the path to socialism. The America we once knew will perhaps be irretrievably gone forever. A Scott Brown victory (and perhaps even a narrow defeat) will be absolutely devastating to not only the Obama Administration but to Democrats as a whole, and the GOP will be energized, motivated and loaded for bear for the November mid-term elections.

Consider this simple fact. Ted Kennedy was the driving force for socialized medicine and his support for Obama tipped the balance his way in the 2008 presidential election. A Scott Brown victory will be an absolute repudiation of Ted Kennedy, national socialized medicine and President Obama.

Folks, that might seem to be a bold statement but I cannot see how this can be spun any other way. A win for Scott Brown on Tuesday night is a crippling defeat for President Obama. If Scott Brown wins on Tuesday, President Obama is officially a lame duck. His presidency will be finished, his agenda will be derailed. His presidency will become known as the biggest political train-wreck in American history (it is headed that way anyhow but why not speed up the process a bit).

This explains more than anything why Obama has decided to visit Massachusetts on the Sunday before the election to support a cold fish like Martha Coakley (who has arguably run the most awful and incompetent statewide political campaign in Massachusetts history) . It is not to save Martha Coakley that President Obama is coming to Massachusetts - it is to save himself.

Martha Coakley has clearly demonstrated during this campaign that she is not only incapable of winning this election on her own but that she is categorically unfit to hold the office of US senator. In the early stages of the campaign, Coakley acted as though the election was her birthright and she adopted a campaign strategy of not only ignoring her opponent - as though he didn't even exist - but ignoring the people she purported to represent as well. Her strategy was to hobnob with the deep-pocketed lobbyists (the people she would REALLY be representing) and to run out the election clock and on election day, collect the majority of the votes that she assumed would be hers.

However, something funny happened on the way to Martha's coronation. Her opponent, Scott Brown, actually had the gall to run a real campaign. While Martha was vacationing with fat cats and the "beautiful people" over the holidays, Scott was travelling around the state in his pickup truck, visiting factories and meeting with real actual people. While Martha was having fundraisers in Washington D.C. (where she was no doubt shopping for furnishings for her new Washington apartment), Scott was busy making the local talk radio circuit and building some real grass-roots support. By the second week of January, hundreds of thousands of homes across Massachusetts sported Brown lawn signs. I do not think I exaggerate when I say that Brown signs outnumber the Coakley signs by more than a 10:1 ratio. Brown had done a fantastic job energizing not only the admittedly small GOP base but also the much larger Independent base.

Once the holidays were over, Martha came to the stark realization that she screwed up royally by taking the Massachusetts voters for granted. Her response was to finally grant Scott Brown the privilege of debating her in which he proceeded to clean her clock, revealing Martha to be nothing more than an empty pants suit with a bad haircut. Now things really started going bad for Martha. In desperation, she decided to launch the most negative and despicable ad campaign that I can remember. Since last Wednesday, the local airwaves have been filled with the nastiest and most deceiving political ads we have ever seen. Now, on the final weekend before the campaign, Martha has the union thugs out in full force on the streets of Massachusetts. Virtually every street corner in the Boston area this weekend is sporting pinky-ring wearing plug-uglys holding Coakley signs.

But that is too little, too late for I firmly believe that Martha Coakley is unable to pull this election out on her own. On the other hand, Scott Brown has clearly done what he had to do to win this election. He has done it through hard work and by running a first-class campaign. Even in the face of Martha's venomous ad campaign, Scott continues to run upbeat ads touting what he can do for the people of Massachusetts in the US senate.

Note how I said in the preceding paragraph that Martha is unable to pull this election out on her own. Now enter President Obama who will be visiting here tomorrow (Sunday). As I mentioned before, Obama is not here to save Martha Coakley's bacon, but his own. If the stakes were not so high, I think that Obama would be hanging Martha out to dry as she has proven to be an embarrassment to the Democratic Party - and that's saying an awful lot.

However, Obama cannot afford to hang Martha out to dry because the fate of his presidency depends upon her pulling this election out.

Unfortunately, there is still a way for Martha Coakley to win and that is if President Obama's visit here on Sunday can motivate enough of the Democratic base to turn out Tuesday to pull the lever for Martha. Because the stakes are so high for Obama, look for him to pull out all the stops. Look for him to not only invoke the memory of Ted Kennedy but also to shamelessly invoke Martin Luther King (it will be after all, the day before MLK day). Also look for him to attempt to portray Scott Brown as George Bush, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Haliburton all rolled up in one. (Yes, we Freepers might laugh at that comparison but don't expect it not to fire up a lot of Massachusetts liberals just the same).

So the big question is: Will Obama's visit tomorrow be enough to put Martha over the top?

My opinion is that Scott Brown has done such a tremendous job with his campaign that he is unbeatable here in Massachusetts provided that the people he has inspired turn out to vote. Even if the Democrats manage to turn out every bum on the street, bus in every illegal alien from Providence and throw in a few cartons of absentee ballots from dead people, it will still NOT be enough to defeat Scott Brown if the rest of us good people show up to vote.

Now I've seen a lot of other Freepers in this forum (usually not from this state) attack Scott Brown because he is not the "pristine" conservative of their wet dreams. Well sorry about that guys, I apologize on behalf of my fellow Massachusetts citizens that we failed in our attempts to exhume Ronald Reagan from the grave to run against Martha Coakley. Maybe next time, OK.

Over the past few months, I have gotten to know Scott Brown. I've been to some of his campaign offices, met him a couple of times and seen him speak. He is one of the most decent politicians we have produced in this state and he deserves our full support him in this historic campaign.

So let's focus for now on getting Scott Brown seated in the US Senate as the 41st Republican and if we can find a more "pristine" conservative to run against him in the next election, hey, I'll vote for him in the primaries - promise.

The bottom line is that American is incalculably better off with Scott Brown in the senate than Martha Coakley and the national implications of a Scott Brown victory on Tuesday night is absolutely staggering.

Freepers, as a long suffering citizen of Massachusetts, I am finally proud to state here that I am a citizen of this state and on Tuesday morning, along with everybody else I can drag along with me, I will be casting my ballot for Scott Brown, Republican, for the US Senate. God willing, we are going to change the course of American history and help get this nation moving back in the right direction.

I will vote for Scott Brown on Tuesday, and I hope fervently he wins. But even if not, President Obama’s radical agenda is pretty much toast. Eventually, he may salvage his Presidency, may even be reelected. But the pseudo-European progressive moment in American politics has thankfully passed.

He is a Reagan conservative. And it was Reagan who liberalized California's abortion laws as Governor. Brown isn't even proposing to do that. He wants tough restrictions on abortion and wants to ban partial birth abortion. If anything, he more conservative on the issue than Ronald Reagan. On taxes and government, he is as pure a Reaganite as you can get in Massachusetts. This good man and great American deserves to be elected to the US Senate!

>>Now, on the final weekend before the campaign, Martha has the union thugs out in full force on the streets of Massachusetts.

The union leadership may be for her but many union workers may be for him. There’s vid online of some union workers holding signs for her saying they got paid $50 by the union to do so, but are actually voting for Brown. And someone took a pic—you can find it here on FR—of some people in SEIU shirts holding Brown signs at a rally.

I completely agree with this sentiment. It's one thing to rip apart Dede Scozzafava (which I did regularly) because even though she was a republican, I did not read about one issue that she had a conservative stance. It is true that Brown does not seem like a complete conservative. He appears to be liberal on cultural/social issues. People, we're not going to get a complete conservative as a Senator from a New England state. Can we do better than Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins? Probably, but even they are tacking right in the past year especially on health insurance. I think Brown is probably about the best we can hope for from the Northeast at this point (with the exception of New Hampshire) and we should support him.

He's not a cultural/social liberal. He opposes gay marriage, the homosexual agenda and gun control. Brown isn't William Weld. He's not a RINO. He is a Reagan conservative.

Excellent thread, SamAdams76. You are awfully polite to the mods for someone who has been around so long...:)

I agree with you assessment, and I don’t think you are being melodramatic. If this were not one of the most important individual elections in recent history, there would not be a former president and a current president coming to the state to stomp for her.

I hope there is enough movement here to overcome the liberal inertia of this state.

It is a bit of a perfect storm: policies at stake that people don’t want implemented, a pretty good, smart articulate conservative candidate and an absolute dimwit for a liberal hack of a candidate who is so inarticulate she cannot rub two brain cells together to generate the heat of a logical thought.

This chance may not come again.

The good thing is, even though the liberals here see how important the election is, conservatives around the country see it too.

Scott HAS to win. The RATS have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt they care not a wit about what the people want. The 41st vote is the only thing that is going to stop them.

We have a choice between a conservative and a liberal. Between two visions of America's future. To decide between prosperity and malaise and between freedom and decline. I think the people of Massachusetts understand the difference between Brown and Coakley and they will vote accordingly come Tuesday.

Regarding the picture in post #3

Civilians don’t know it, but all those ribbons and doodads can tell a military veteran a lot at a glance. He’s got jump wings which means he’s paratrooper qualified. (not easy to get those) He’s got the expert marksman badge which means he qualified at the highest level on either the rifle or pistol. (definately not easy to get, I was one of 6 out of 260 in basic training) he has what I believe is the German sports badge on his right breast above his nameplate. If that’s what I think it is, he is one seriously fit and tough dude. The German sports badge is really really really hard to get. When you put all those things together, I’d say he could give Chuck Norris a run for his money.

Unfortunately, there is still a way for Martha Coakley to win and that is if President Obama's visit here on Sunday can motivate enough of the Democratic base to turn out Tuesday to pull the lever for Martha.

Weather forecast for Boston on Tuesday is Cloudy and in the 30s. I don't think B. Hussein Obama's base will get out of their nice warm bed, crack house and/or HO house to go vote when only two Whiteys are on the ballot.
