A year later, hope dissolves into disappointment
Philly.com ^ | 1/17/10 | PAULINE ARRILLAGA

A year ago, on an Inauguration Day like no other, Barack Obama placed his hand upon the Lincoln Bible and then assured a weary nation that, with hope and virtue, we could "brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come."

Across the country, in Seattle, Glen Boyd had only just entered his own economic storm. A couple of weeks out of work as a DIRECTV salesman, the Obama supporter nevertheless watched the inauguration on TV with a kind of goose-pimply, things-are-bound-to-get-better anticipation. He really felt it, that thing which the poet Alexander Pope said springs eternal.

"I felt a tremendous sense of pride. I felt like he was the right guy. I felt a sense of optimism," recalls Boyd.

Now, a year later, Boyd writes this in his blog: "We believed what the man said in all those `yes, we can' speeches. My one question is, where are all those reassuring speeches now?"

"To say I'm disappointed by the Obama presidency thus far would be an understatement."

Forget "can," "change" and, above all, "hope." The new word echoing in the blogosphere and beyond as Obama enters Year Two: disappointment.

The polls have shown a wide decline in Americans' approval of Obama since he first took office last Jan. 20. In fact, according to the latest Gallup Poll, he entered his second year with one of the lowest approval ratings of any president in the last half-century (50 percent of Americans approved of his job performance at the first of January, and 44 percent disapproved.)

The Obama magic is gone. He isn't inspiring any more. Obama was like the proverbial bolt of lightning in a bottle. The country has moved on.

He’s not my president. He has never made even a single good faith gesture to be my president. He’s been an “in yo’ face” champion of corrupt far left interest groups since Day One.

The words of Malcolm X to all of the Obammy supporters:

“I say and I say it again, you’ve been had. You’ve been took. You’ve been HOODWINKED, BAMBOOZLED, led astray, run amok.”

NOW we know the truth ... It was all a lie. A shuck and jive act, start to finish. You've been hoodwinked and bamboozled America.

The author needs to write a follow-up article: "Why Simpletons Continue to Put Hope in Empty Suits."

C'mon, tell me ONE SINGLE voter who knew anything about Obama's childhood, college years, early Chicago community organizing, his law practice, or his Illinois voting record as State Senator as they pulled the lever.

When you put your hope in something you know absolutely nothing about, of course you will be disappointed. I would love to think that this puts an end to future meaningless "hope and change" candidates, but alas, history has this remarkable way of repeating itself.

I have read similar stories before but never tire of them.

When I read them I feel HOPE that we can CHANGE back to America.

that thing which the poet Alexander Pope said springs eternal.

If this pathetic excuse for a writer had known the whole couplet it would have made even more sense:,/p>

Hope springs eternal in the human breast--

Man never is, but always to be, blessed.

Fits the 'rat scam to a T.

From the article: "A couple of weeks out of work as a DIRECTV salesman, ..."

As long as liberals think that the role of government is to create jobs, there will be much suffering.

The government didn't create DirectTV, but it did encourage the irresponsible lending which resulted in a financial meltdown that would discourage companies from investing in expansion. That this man doesn't realize that government is not his friend is an indication that he has much yet to learn and much more suffering to endure.

Amazingly, Obama can blame much of his failure on that reflection in the mirror.

Obama voters can be proud that there is a chump born every minute.

Agree and I believe he was deliberately sworn in improperly so it could be done in private with the Koran rather than Bible.

The hell with Obama and his approval rating. This isn’t about this worthless piece of crap anymore, it’s about America, our country and our home. How can we get this guy out of office, legally, does anyone here know? Impeachment, re-call election? I’m serious, I’d like to know because this land we love is in serious trouble and this jackass is not up to the task. He’s destroying America every day and every hour. 10% unemployment, a rapidly devaluating dollar , rising Islamist terror, and the general malaise and angst out here cannot go on for three more years. Obama has to go.

HOPE = DOPE

The DOPE’s let their ideology get in the way. Had they gone strictly after the number one issue THE ECONOMY that Americans desperatley wanted and had some impact doing so over the first year he would have gained some trust thus allowing this health farce to be stoked more easily. He can thank Peloser and Reid this ...... because the ideologues ran from the gate day one he is now having to put out their doings in Mass on a Sunday.....
