Most of this opinion article from David Brooks is the usual "Obama is so great, so wonderful, so thoughtful" baloney but then you get to the bolded paragraph below and you will have to re-read it a few times just to make sure you reading it right. Yes, he is calling out the left if they fail to learn from Massachusetts:
The country is now split on Obama, because he is temperate, thoughtful and pragmatic, but his policies are almost all unpopular. If you aggregate the last seven polls on health care reform, 41 percent support it and 51 percent oppose. Many Democrats, as always, are caught in their insular liberal information loop. They think the polls are bad simply because the economy is bad. They tell each other health care is unpopular because the people arent sophisticated enough to understand it. Some believe they can still pass health care even if their candidate, Martha Coakley, loses the Senate race in Massachusetts on Tuesday.
That, of course, would be political suicide. It would be the act of a party so arrogant, elitist and contemptuous of popular wisdom that it would not deserve to govern. Marie Antoinette would applaud, but voters would rage.

If I do turn Democrat, what's in it for me?
Brooks is a real rocket scientist huh ?
They are that now...regardless of whether or not they try to pass Obummercare after the Massachusetts beatdown.
David Brooks said that? What? Did he get a testosterone transfusion?
Obama is a rabid, Marxist ideologue. Brooks is an idiot.
They’re arrogant, elitist and contemptuous if they don’t pass that damned bill. Brooks is a fool to think that Democrats won’t try to find a way to do it regardless of what happens with this election.
...if they pass health care??!! They're that way even if they don't!
His vocabulary consists of the following words:ME.....I....MINE.....MY. How often have you heard him say WE or US? Never !!!!!
"The country is now split on Obama, because he is temperate, thoughtful and pragmatic, but his policies are almost all unpopular."
Nope.
This “Nice Guy/Lousy Product” argument doesn’t wash with me, either. I think the Media & congressional democrats are holding Obama up because they have no other alternative because it is so early in his presidency. Can’t chuck him in the first 2 years, IOW’s.
Bottom line: I’m suspicious of all the Obama popularity polls save one — Rassmussen.
My comment earlier is that, for David Brooks, this was a strong statement, even if he still trims at the edges like every moderate you ever met.
Answer:
“I’ll let your wife keep that profitable beer distributorship in Arizona. Cross me and this Bud’s for ME.”
Brooks really ought to be a consultant to the democrats- he is one, anyway. If that SOB didn’t throw the lever for Obama I’ll eat my hat.
