HB 371 would repeal the terms abused, neglected, and dependent children in major sections of Ohios civil code and create a new category a child in need of protective services This shift in core terms in state law will affect every Ohio family with minor children, because it will clearly broaden the net cast by child protective service agencies to justify an increase in the states intervention into the home.
Proposed R.C. 2151.03 defines a "child in need of protective services" to be one in which ONE act or omission of a parent (or guardian / legal custodian) results in the occurrence of ONE of the following: physical harm, sexual harm, emotional harm, exposure to substance misuse (not substance abuse), lacking necessary healthcare, lacking a legally required education, lacking necessary care or supervision. It is the definition of such terms that should cause every family to be concerned. (pp. 56-58)

More plans for Marxist tyranny by those above the law.
How about shining the light on the sources and destroying them?
One of my offspring was a huge hypochondriac as a child (has chosen a health care profession - LOL)... point being that the child wanted to go to the doctor for every little thing that ever happened. I would have been deemed an unfit parent “withholding healthcare” had they listened to the child.
You folks in Ohio better hammer this new law into the ground. You will never run into a bigger bunch of arrogant, knowitall scum than the nazis from CPS. Do not give the ba$tards anymore power than they already have or you will be sorry.
“had they listened to the child.”
Yup, and they will. In Washington state CPS has a simple philosophy. If the child accuses a parent of anything they are telling the truth. If the child won’t accuse the parent, they have been brainwashed, coerced, or intimidated into lying. If the child accuses a CPS or public school employee of wrong doing they are liars.
Good grief they want to stick their nose into every accident.
That just about wraps it up. With a law like this, they could take the children of any parent they don’t deem fit.
This would be a homeschool concern given the definition of a child *in need of protective services*.

BIG-TIME LIBERTARIAN PING!!!
They already do. We knew a family whose daughter twisted her ankle slightly. The mother was a nurse and didn't see the need to get her to the doctor over it and wrapped it and let her use (play with) an old pair of crutches. A neighbor down the street called social services on them and the parents were forced to take her to the ER and doctor. The doctor was LIVID that DSS got involved.
.....legally required education.....
What’s that mean?.. How will this affect homeschoolers?.. I have family members in Ohio who homeschool.
I hope those of you who live in Ohio are able to defeat this bill. I don’t live in OH, but I will pass the message along.
This is very true. When I first became a Mom, My childs carrier flipped over (I think he learned to shift his weight and I didn’t know it). I ran to a neighbor who is a nurse. She checked him over and he was alright exept for a bruise that was forming on his cheek. I asked if I should take him to emergency. She said “absolutely not” he was alright and with and accident like that, the hospital would have turned me in to protective services, or at the very least “red flagged” me as a potential abuser.
