I have a friend in the Ready Reserve ships who can carry the support equipment for pier building and can get one built fairly quickly, He didn’t get the call until Saturday and they are on 5 day alert. So it took them 5 days to decide what and who to send. I doubt they will get there until sometime late next week.

Oh, he doesn't need to, not even a Czar as long as the blue-helmets have all "under control."

I'm also feeling warm and fuzzy that "O" has our own military being "protected" by UN, don't you.

IMHO, Haiti could be fixed by appointing a Military Governor with wide levity, similar to MacArthur's position in post-war Japan...Within 10 years or so, the country could be up and running on its own. It will never happen because the leftists would never allow it.

First, said governor would have to establish a strict civil authority to establish law and order and some degree of stability, with the consistent administration of justice. The early roots of representative government could be established by allowing a system of local (i.e. township, village etc.) elections for representatives that were responsible to the governor for the administration of their bailiwicks.

Private charities and industry would have to be allowed in to revitalize education, train a rudimentary labor force, and put them to work. The *global community* would have to get over their aversion to "sweat shops", but if a single corporation would open up a factory or plant in a nation where the (pre-quake) annual per capita income was $1300, and pay workers $5K a year to work in a sanitary, safe facility, the corporate entity would be able to avail itself of good cheap labor, the workers would be fabulously wealthy by local standards, and the community would see the benefits of their labor. Of course, as the newly paid workers accrued wealth and property, law and order would need to be maintained to protect them from the looter class. IMHO, this would snowball with additional businesses setting up shop there and competing for the labor, and within a decade, the military governor position could be abolished.

Just my two cents, but it will never happen.

Israel may have been the first on the scene, including pulling survivors from the UN compound and one of the Haitian government sites, but that's quite different from being the only ones there. Expectations of the US are simply higher.

Exactly what is being reported as to what the UN has done or is doing?
It’s been reported tthat they had 7,000 soldiers, 2,000 police and 2,000 civilians in Haiti on a long term basis before the earthquake.
Those numbers were to be increased after the earthquake.

I’ve heard that only Israeli rescuers have been able to set up a makeshift outdoor “hospital” to treat the ill and injured. That probably means that sooner or later, Israel will be criticized by leftists in spite of her exceptional efforts to save lives.

The same people are probably pissed we are running the airport.

Think about what you are saying. What airport? Why isn't there an alternate yet? Our military has the capability to set up airports in jungle locations in a day or two. Same thing with field hospitals. Our response seems to indicate only casual interest in helping.

Who? Not the US, it's not our country, territory or conquest.

When Clinton invaded Haiti and overthrew the government in a nearly bloodless coup, it was on the front page of every newsmagazine and newspaper in the country. By a weird coincidence, he’s a Democrat. Thanks blueyon.

Chelsea is part of the idle rich.....no real work....no real schooling...at least not like most college students since she was granted so much credit for being the first brat....funny how the poor Clintons came out of the presidency with millions and millions ...

Didn't say it was up to us; just put out my thoughts what it would take to fix the country, although fixing it would enhance the regional/hemispheric stability and be in our interests. Certainly be better than letting a Chavez or Castro move in.

charities can't train people to work who don't want to work....

what must be must be.....until work is valued and rewarded, and the impact on your children realized, societies like Haiti are doomed..

the USA is doomed too if we keep letting people live off disabilty, law suits, early pensions, union gimicks, etc...

build a huge resort first.....have a wonderful beach and a golf course...entice entertainment...hire workers as you can, and inturn, a subset of farmers, fishermen, repairmen etc will find jobs suppling the resort...

OK, I misunderstood. It’s not that we can’t, but we won’t make that type of commitment. Nor do I think we should. Chavez is a possibility, they’re certainly ripe for that style of Hope and Change. We should be willing to confront a Chavez, or Castro, but I’m not sure we can fix the place. Given their proximity to the US, a creative capitalist could find a way. Not just for Haiti, but for the Caribbean, to the extent that anyone wants our help. But capitalism isn’t something we’re exporting at the moment.

As DefendGlenn often says on Twitter, put this in the "If Bush Did It" file. If Bush were President right now, every broadcast on CNN and MSLSD would be attacking the slow response and attributing it to racism.

Americans from charitable groups, religious or otherwise, are Americans, and they were there both on and before day on.

I noticed that too. Very interesting and very suspicious. I also can’t help but wonder how the Israelis got permisssion to land after so many aircraft were turned back after circling for hours, somebody has some pull,it would seem.

Note post 35, you sound like one of those greedy capitalists The One talks about. Maybe not on Wall St., maybe there, but no difference.

Next thing you're going to tell me that in the day of making fuel from sugar cane, it might make sense to grow sugar cane on those islands that once grew sugar cane in times gone by. Won't work in a deforested Haiti, but worth thinking about.

I recall the threads a couple years ago where even freepers told me I'd be paying $10.00 for a tomato without illegals. Wonder if Haiti can grow tomatos at $10 per. Without political skimming.

The evening news said His royal pain in the butt and his misses will be donating a measly $15,000 to relief for Haiti...this most powerful pair in the US are worth millions, but can only spare $15G for these poor people....but then again he can't even spare a $1.00 a month for his poor uncle in Kenya.

I suspect RUSH has sent more money to Haiti via a reliable private agency than 0 has. Hmmm what has slick willie and his millionaire wife sent?
