WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has lifted a U.S. ban on a planned visit by a leading European Muslim critic of the Iraq war, in a move rights groups hailed as a victory for civil liberties.

Clinton signed orders which ended the ban on Professor Tariq Ramadan of Oxford University, who was barred due to alleged terrorism ties which he denies, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said on Wednesday.

You can see why the leftists are so infatuated with him... they will suck down anything that tastes like Marx:

In his campus visits, however, Mr. Ramadan's dynamic teaching style made a powerful impression, said R. Scott Appleby, director of the Kroc institute. Notre Dame was looking for a scholar who could "lead us into interreligious dialogue and intrareligious dialogue and religious-secular dialogue," Mr. Appleby said. Mr. Ramadan's approach "was rooted in a kind of spirituality and a scholarly method that was innovative and original and very fruitful. "He has developed his own philosophy, his own synthesis of the West and Islam," Mr. Appleby continued, "drawing from Nietzsche on the one hand and Islamic philosophers on the other. He has critiques of capitalism and globalization, integrated into Islamic ideas. At the same time, he is challenging Islam to become more universalist, to embrace democracy, to help shape democracy. “Once barred, Muslim scholar may enter U.S.”
Published: Jan. 21, 2010 at 1:05 AM

SNIPPET: “SNIPPET: “LONDON, Jan. 21 (UPI) — Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has lifted a six-year old ruling denying a visa for a Muslim scholar to enter the United States, the State Department said.

The department invoked the Patriot Act in 2004 when it revoked the visa of Tariq Ramadan, accusing him of contributing financially to a charitable organization the United States said was linked to terrorists. Clinton Wednesday signed an order allowing Ramadan to apply for a new visa, The New York Times reported.”

Djamel Beghal (also transliterated as Jamel Beghal and Djamel Begal) is a French Algerian and alleged Al-Qaida member.
Beghal had once lived in London and attended the Finsbury Park mosque along with Richard Reid, Zacarias Moussaoui, Nizar Trabelsi, the Courtailler brothers, and other Al-Qaida suspects.

U.K.: Counterterror advisor to Metropolitan Police is on Interpol wanted list
TIMES ONLINE via JIHAD WATCH.org ^ | December 15, 2008 | n/a
Posted on December 15, 2008 3:17:34 AM PST by Cindy

A man wanted by Interpol for his links to an alleged terrorist organisation has been advising Scotland Yard on countering Muslim extremism, a Times investigation has discovered.

Mohamed Ali Harrath has been the subject of the Interpol red notice since 1992 because of his alleged activities in Tunisia, where he co-founded the Tunisian Islamic Front (FIT).

Tunisia has accused Mr Harrath, the chief executive officer of the Islam Channel in Britain and an adviser to the Scotland Yard Muslim Contact Unit, of seeking help from Osama bin Laden. It says that the FIT wants to establish “an Islamic state by means of armed revolutionary violence”. Mr Harrath has been convicted in absentia of numerous criminal and terrorism-related offences by Tunisian courts and sentenced to 56 years in prison. Tunisia is an ally of the West in the fight against terrorism but is regarded by critics as a police or one-party state. Its secular Government regards those who advocate an Islamic state as a threat to its stability.

This led up to the US embassy plot in Paris in which Djamal Beghal was also involved :

OCTOBER 2000 : (EUROPE : BELGIUM : DIAMOND HEIST AT ZAVENTUM NATIONAL AIRPORT; NIZAR TRABELSI {See BELGIUM CELL, US EMBASSY PARIS PLOT, DRUG & DIAMOND TRAFFICKING} IS INVOLVED --- See AL-QAEDA, BELGIUM CELL , NETHERLANDS/ROTTERDAM CELL) Thieves steal five trunks of diamonds in a hold-up on the tarmac of Brussels airport, as staff were preparing to transfer the diamonds, valued at 6.5 million euro (US$10.93 million) to a Lufthansa flight from Brussels to Frankfurt. Later, VTM television in 2001 said Belgian investigators believe the haul by four robbers of five trunks of diamonds at Brussels airport had gone to fund al-Qaeda and Afghanistan's former Taliban regime. It said the investigators believed Nizar Trabelsi, a Tunisian arrested late in 2001 in Brussels and suspected of planning an attack on the US embassy in Paris, was linked to the robbery. The raids were carried out in Brussels and the nearby towns of Vilvoorde, Wavre and Nivelles, VTM said. Investigators later carried out raids on Islamists as part of an inquiry into the robberies of diamonds. --?

NOVEMBER 2002 : (REPORT : -- See BELGIUM, US EMBASSY PLOTS, MILBASEPLOTS) An al-Qa'eda terrorist has confessed that he planned to drive a giant explosive device into a United States air force bunker in Belgium believed to contain nuclear warheads. News of the plot came as America gave warning that a broadcast thought to contain the words of Osama bin Laden foreshadowed a likely attack. The FBI said national landmarks, the aviation, oil and nuclear industries were possible targets.
In an interview with a Belgian radio station, Nizar Trabelsi, 31, a Tunisian former professional footballer, said he had hoped to attack the Kleine Brogel base in eastern Belgium with a bomb similar to those used to blow up the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. The base includes a munitions store and is said by anti-nuclear groups to contain 20 free-fall nuclear bombs.
"I am guilty, I will have to pay for it. What I did is not good, but I had no choice," he said in the radio interview from his cell. When asked by RTBF, the Belgian public radio station, if Kleine Brogel was his target he replied: "Yes, exactly."
His confession marked the first known al-Qa'eda plot to attack a nuclear target in Europe. Since September 11 last year security at nuclear installations has been strengthened across the continent, with some civil sites guarded by missile systems.
The former German league player lived in London in the late 1990s and listened to sermons from the Islamic cleric Abu Qatada, who has been linked to al-Qa'eda. When arrested last year [2001] he was suspected of involvement in an al-Qa'eda plot to attack the American embassy in Paris. Trabelsi said he had met bin Laden during a visit to Afghanistan.--------(AL QAEDA) Terrorist planned nuclear base raid The Daily Telegraph ^ | November 16, 2002 | Philip Delves Broughton

Ramadan likes to play the role of the victim and moderate but instead of talking moderation where it needs to be spoken - into the faces of the radicals in the Middle East- he spends all of his time trying to preaching to the western world.

If he was truly a moderate he wouldn't be trying to get into a position where he can lecture US college students. He would be trying to persuade muslim students not to blow themselves up.

More Dopey Hopey Changey ...

(ANSAmed) - ROME, JUNE 3 - According to the controversial Swiss intellectual and Islam scholar, Tariq Ramadan, a "change in attitude" and "effective and necessary action", a "real and profound message of respect" but above all "humility" are what the Muslim world expects in the keynote speech that USA President Barack Obama will be making tomorrow in Cairo.... Thus, "the first thing that can be expected" is that, by talking to the Muslim world, he will also be talking to the "US and the West". Ramadan confirmed that during the first few months of his presidency Obama "has shown respect for Islam, announced the closure of Guantanamo and an end to torture, and adopted a firm stance against the Israeli government with regard to the building of settlements". ------"TARIQ RAMADAN, 'MUSLIMS WANT RESPECT AND HUMIILITY'" ANSAmed ^ | June 3 2009 | ANSA staff

Lots of prominent moderate Muslims are also accusing Ramadan of double talk and hijacking Islam for a dangerous project. Most of his detractors are coincidentally Muslim. For instance, the head of the French Muslim Council and head of the Paris Mosque, Dalil Boubakeur, declared recently, “when one invites Tariq Ramadan, it is not to listen to what Allah and the angels said; Ramadan is the vehicle of fundamentalist Islam.”——— “Tariq Ramadan is not a victim,” by Olivier Guitta, The American Thinker, December 22nd, 2004

Culture must be expelled if it conflicts with islam

Then why is she studying at a university, an idea created by Westerners? Why is she living off the benefits of a Western country? Islam couldn’t exist with the power it currently does without leeching off the inventions of Western infidels.

OPINION:

Universities are notorious for attracting people with various agendas (ie communists, socialists, islamists, etc.).

Universities are also fertile recruiting grounds — like prisons.
