KLBJ radio in Austin broke in with a report that shots were fired at the state capitol. Gunman in custody. No further details yet.
The legislature is not in session to my knowledge.
Texas state police say one person is in custody after gunshots were fired on the south steps of the Texas Capitol, but it isn’t clear if anybody was injured.
More than half a dozen Texas Department of Public Safety cars descended on the capitol Thursday afternoon, and officers toting rifles surrounded the building.
The officers were in the process of securing the Capitol’s third floor around noon, said Tristan Letscher, police communications operator for the DPS.
The building is in lockdown and the suspect is in custody, DPS spokeswoman Lisa Block said.
A witness said he heard three or four shots fired.
Interesting, also, did anyone hear what sounded like an explosion(s) about 30 minutes ago on the north side of Houston?? I heard what sounded like three volleys of three followed by one single.
A lib loon from Austin sent mad by the MA result?
More details from the Austin American-Statesman
No injuries reported yet.
They have the name of a perp - Fausto Cardenas - who has been taken into custody.
Must not have hit anybody though.
The Capitol is lockdown which means nothing is getting done which means “business as usual”.
The Legislature isn’t in session - they better NOT be doing anything. :P
One of the refineries having a bad day, perhaps?
That tears it! Ban all guns in Texas!
No, it should be the other way around — all non-felons are required to get a CHL.
Fortunately, the legislature is rarely in session in Texas. That’s probably why we’re faring slightly better than most states right now.
hehehe, come and take it!!!
Sorry, I am on the S.E. side...
Logan Spence, chief of staff to state Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, said a man walked into his office this morning on the third floor of the Capitol and asked to speak to a woman in a white shirt a Patrick staffer the man had seen in the hall.
The man asked to see her in a private office, Spence said. The woman refused, and after a couple of minutes, Spence approached the man who then left.
"He had his hands in the pockets of his jacket," Spence said. "We all thought he just wanted to ask this girl out."
Immediately afterward, Spence said he heard shots, looked out and saw that the man was being arrested.
Spence said the woman did not know the man.
Now we have a great reason to visit Austin (in April) for the Second Amendment March...
Those knuckleheads need a gentle reminder now...
Looks like the governor stepped in and commented on the shooting incident the other day...
Basically...No change...
Take it for what its worth...
Lessee if Dan the man levitan takes a hint...
