It's Reconciliation! (Pelosi to use "nuclear option"
NY Daily News ^ | 1/21/10 | Mcaulif

A well-informed source tells The Mouth Nancy Pelosi is set to announce the House will go the reconciliation route on health care reform.

Of course, that means using a budgetary procedure that requires a simple majority to pass.

It’s still unclear to us precisely what that means would be passed, but possibilities would be creating a national health care exchange and expanding Medicare or Medicaid coverage.

Democrats are caucusing now, so stay tuned.

Update: A second source confirms that Pelosi is presenting a reconciliation plan to the caucus, and making sure they go with something that can actually pass.

Separately, she is meeting with Harry Reid today.

Huh? Isn’t that at odds with her “health care is dead...” remarks?

Interesting...do you all think this is purely Queen Nancy’s doing or is Barry Zero pushing this as well??

Article was posted this morning. Sounds like Nancy proposed this and her own caucus told her to go take a hike.

This pig doesn’t listen. The people of America don’t want this POS bill.

Drop it Nancy. Your stupid bill is dead in the water.

go to the referenced site - the time posted in 0829 AM today - so I believe Pelosi’s “the bill is dead” remarks came after this was posted. But who knows what they will try...I’m sure they will not go quietly!

The house does not have reconciliation. The Senate does. Pelosi is speaker of the house. Something is confusing here.

Something’s wrong with this story. The House does everything on simple majority. Isn’t it the Senate that has been pondering the reconciliation process, not the House?

I am hearing that they will include the “public option” in the reconciliation bill. This could be Christmas in January for Republicans. Where’s the guy with the picture of the train crash at Montparnasse France in 1895?

Remember...whatever is passed via reconciliation, can be repealed via reconciliation.

Boil it down to its essence, the transfer of income to Democrat constituents.

Huh? Isn’t that at odds with her “health care is dead...” remarks?

Not at all. She said the Senate bill as it stands could not be passed in the House. This means they'll cull elements that both parties can agree on for passage. Others will be added to appropriations bills to make them easier to pass (only 51 votes needed). I've already written my rep (R), knowing this is how they'd proceed. Everything Pelosi and Obama have said since Tuesday (especially his SOTU address scheduled for 1/28) implies this.

Night of the Living Dead Health Care.

Braaaaains... and moneeeeeeey.

The Republicans had better be ready to slice that bill apart with points of order. There are very limited numbers of things that can be in a reconciliation bill, and if the Republicans fight it they should be to make sure that only a remnant of the original bill is up for the final vote.

I dont think it will work. Key provisions of this turkey cannot be passed via reconciliation.
